The young pianist has been groomed for greatness by leading piano pedagogue Marietta Orlov and was an Orford Music Centre Scholarship recipient in recent seasons. Mr. Kim will perform the Brahm’s Piano Concerto, No 1, a work that rocked the music world of its day with its stunning inventiveness and has gone on to be an audience favourite.
Also on the program is the much-loved Mendelssohn Symphony No. 3, “The Scottish” and Canadian composer Louie’s “Celebration Music”, in all a rousing program of music to celebrate.
Orchestra-in-residence at the George Weston Recital Hall, Toronto Centre for the Arts, the Toronto Philharmonia performs a series of eight concerts in a venue renowned for its superb acoustics. The orchestra, which began life as the North York Symphony, is led by charismatic Music Director, Kerry Stratton, whose humourous and enlightening comments from the podium serve to enhance audience members’ appreciation of the music. Beginning life as the North York Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra continues to serve the classical audiences of Northern Toronto, North York, York Region and surrounding communities with “great music close to home!”
