PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ

May 10, 2008

On May 10th the music of one of the most prolific Broadway composers in recent history will come alive at Puttin’ On The Ritz, a selection of songs by Irving Berlin performed by the all female cast of Toronto’s own ORIANA Women’s Choir. The catchy tunes and intricate rhythms of Berlin’s songs have delighted both young and old for decades, so it is guaranteed that you’ll leave the theatre humming!

Led by Artistic Director William Brown, Puttin' On The Ritz will present arrangements of Berlin's music by Besig/Price, Roger Emerson, Hayes, Mac Huff, Ed Lojeski, and Kirby Shaw. Expect to hear a theatre-full of tapping feet as we present many of Berlin's well-known favourites including: Puttin' On the Ritz; Blue Skies; Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails; Cheek to Cheek; Sisters; Alexander's Ragtime Band; and There's No Business Like Show Business.

The ORIANA Women's Choir is joined at the Jane Mallett Theatre by fabulous guest artists Jan Giles (vocals), Victor Bateman (string bass), and Andrew Morris (drums).

Established in 1972, the ORIANA Women's Choir has become one of the finest women's choirs in Canada. The choir has earned much recognition, won a variety of awards in Canada and abroad including best performance of a Canadian work at the CBC Choral Competition in 2004.
