Latin American Canadian Art Projects (LACAP) is proud to present Inti-Illimani accompanied by Francesca Gagnon, the voice of Cirque du Soleil’s “Alegria”, for a Fundraising Concert in support of the reconstruction efforts in the city of Lota, Chile.
As you all know by now, Chile was hit by an 8.8 magnitude earthquake Saturday, February 27th, the 5th strongest earthquake in history. It has taken the lives of hundreds of people and displaced over 2 million. LACAP is raising funds to support the long term reconstruction efforts of Lota, Chile, a city in one of hardest hit areas of the earthquake.
About the Concert:
Canada's Francesca Gagnon and Chile's Inti-Illimani will present their recently completed recording "Meridiano" with a program that mixes the popular songs of Cirque du Soleil with works from Inti-Illimani's vast repertoire.
The voice of Cirque du Soleil's "Alegria", Francesca Gagnon is known the world over. The soundtrack to "Alegría" topped the Billboard World Music charts for more than a year.
For well over 30 years, Inti-Illimani (the name translates as "Sun God") has held a beacon for Chilean music, both the traditional folk styles and the more contemporary "nueva canción" (new song). As one of the most famous artists in South America and outspoken critics of the dictatorship in Chile, they were forced into exile for 15 years. The band has performed around the world and as part of the Amnesty International Tours alongside Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Seeger and Sting, among many others.
