More on the festival...
pivotal(arts) Artistic Director Shawn Douglas Murphy will be directing his first play with the company. Artistic Producers Jennifer De Lucia and Deanna Palazzo (also Co-Artistic Director) will take the stage under Murphy’s direction in Daniel J. Karpenchuk’s new play Crime Scene.
Graeme Gerrard (pivotal(arts), has written yet another edgy, comical, queer play for pivotal(arts) titled Dating Yourself. Kevin Morris (Buddies and Bad Times, Tarragon Theatre and founding member of pivotal(arts)) will be presenting his new play The Four Minute Mile.
The selected plays go through three months of weekly peer-facilitated workshops (playLab) before being cast and rehearsed. playLabs have run for the last four years and have been filled with over 100 of Toronto’s emerging directors, writers, dramaturges, producers and actors. playLabs run in the summer and fall and are free for all participants.
This year, pivotal(arts) welcomed back their collective creation new play development. With guidance, exercises and dramaturgical support a group of six artists have created a delightful play titled Up in the Clouds anchored and inspired by the theme “Transition.”
The festival offers its writers and their scripts a three-month incubation process, which is a hands-on approach in all areas of the production. pivotal(arts) believes there is a need to present works at all stages of development, making this festival so unique. Therefore, the plays presented are products of process and not necessarily final scripts.
Tickets can be bought online at www.BreadAndCircus.ca and are $15 each (two shows per night) or $25 for a two-night festival pass. Doors open at 7pm and shows begin at 7:30pm sharp. All shows are general seating.
