2015 TD Then & Now presents Twisted

Twisted is a world premiere production written by Joseph Jomo Pierre and Charlotte Corbeil-Coleman, adapted from Dickens’ Oliver Twist. This adaptation brings the classic story right into the heart of Toronto, looking at the social reality of urban youth from their perspective. Using a modern cast of characters who incorporate familiar elements such as hip hop culture and cellphone texting, this re-imagined story reveals the hardships, fears and hopes of youth currently living in Toronto.

In collaboration, b current and Factory Theatre are presenting this production alongside a series of outreach workshops geared towards young black men tentatively titled “Untwisted”.

As the Twisted production goes into rehearsal in January, the participants of the “Untwisted” series will begin workshops with artist facilitators. Performances of Twisted in February will be complemented by the “Untwisted” storyteller presentations.
