Pretty Raw

A selection of documentaries curated by Jeremy McCormick

Politically incorrect, somewhat offensive, and alluringly raw, this selection of documentaries focuses on subjects who bluntly define themselves in their own visual, verbal and social language. The result is a frank portrait of how communities and sub-cultures define themselves intentionally or otherwise, and how their environment defines them.

Frat House
by Todd Phillips and Andrew Gurland
The opening fraternity, that drove the filmmakers, of this unreleased documentary, out of the college and the town, is the Beta Chi fraternity on the State University of New York College at Oneonta campus. Beta Chi is an unrecognized fraternity in Oneonta, and was kicked off the Oneonta campus after reports of severe hazing. It continues to operate as a rogue, unrecognized chapter in the town to this day.

Dark Carnival of Souls The Juggalo Gathering 2009
by Derek Erdman & David Wilcox
After seeing the commercial for the 2009 Juggalo Gathering, it was hard to not be curious about what going to it would be like.

Wildwood N.J.
by Carol Weaks/Cassidy and Ruth Leitman
This documentary will take you down the shore to Wildwood, N.J.: the last great American blue-collar carnival town.
