The Toronto Jazz Orchestra and Ingrid Jensen perform at the Toronto Jazz Festival
Eager to hear some of Canada’s hottest talent at this month’s Toronto Jazz Festival? Then check out the critically acclaimed trumpet and flugelhorn player Ingrid Jensen as she performs alongside the Toronto Jazz Orchestra (TJO) with guest vocalist Sophia Perlman at The Rex Hotel from 1 to 4 p.m. on June 27.
Josh Grossman - artistic director and conductor of the TJO - is thrilled to perform with Jensen, a Juno award winner who has played with a number of musicians from a wide variety of musical genres, including saxophonist Kenny Garrett and British soul star Corrine Bailey Rae. “Her playing is inspirational,” says Grossman. “It’s great to have a Canadian making such waves in the global jazz community.”
In addition to being a world class soloist, Jensen has also received several Juno nominations and yearly appearances on the Downbeat Critics’ polls; she is a regular in the Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra and Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, two of the jazz world’s most important contemporary big bands.
