The top 5 outrageous foods coming to the CNE in 2013

Posted by Staff / July 25, 2013

Bacon MilkshakeYesterday the CNE sent us a press release of some of the new foods slated to be on this summer's menu. Among the offerings the nutella fries and spring rolls stood out, but after a bit more digging we were able to discover some additional outrageous foods that will be available this August that weren't mentioned in the initial release.

Here are five outrageous, gut-busting foods to try at the CNE this summer.

The bacon and peanut butter milkshake
Bacon Nation, the outfit that brought deep fried bacon covered hot dogs and other bacon surprises to the CNE last year is back in 2013 with this ultimate, fattening summer treat. And if a bacon drink isn't filling enough, Bacon Nation also promises to be selling something called The Canuck (aka The Pig Mac) which is a burger featuring a patty made with ground bacon.

The spice cream cone
Just because bacon never goes out of style, ice cream vendor Just Cone It will be aiming to top last year's dirty bacon cone with something they're calling a spice cream cone. Move over Ed's Real Scoop. This is the ice cream treat to end all ice cream treats. It starts with a specialty hot baked cone which is then smothered with nutella, filled with vanilla soft serve ice cream and topped with spicy chili flakes and loads of crispy bacon of course.

The Epic Burger
This burger promises to be so epic the details of it are still tightly under wraps even the staff at the CNE aren't in the know. What we do know is that the burger is the latest offering from the same outfit that brought us the Krispy Kreme cheeseburger back in 2011.

Nutella everything
As we mentioned earlier today, nutella promises to be a big theme this year with at least two vendors prominently featuring everyone's favourite hazelnut spread. Along with the aforementioned nutella spring rolls and fries, expect nutella ravioli, deep fried nutella banana, nutella-strawberry grilled cheese and nutella wontons.

Pulled pork in things it shouldn't be in
Last but not least, pork fans should be pleased to know that bacon won't be the only swine food offering at the CNE this year. Pulled pork will be back in a big way thanks to return vendor Pull'd. Last year you might remember they served up the oh-so-indulgent red velvet pancakes layered with pulled pork. This year they're promising plenty of menu additions so stay tuned until August when they have the full reveal.

Which new food offering at the CNE are you most excited or repulsed about this year?

These things are like Adam Sandler movies, everyone rolls their eyes, complains and says they won't try them then come opening day and millions are sold.
CLA / July 25, 2013 at 03:46 pm

So. Gross.

The Nutella spring rolls and fries sound intriguing, though.

What about vegan options?

We get it, bacon tastes good.

Hooray for zero knowledge of nutrition and how the body works (tip: eating excessive amounts of calories - not necessarily sugar - over a prolonged time increases the chance of diabetes; occasionally splurging has won't).

People seriously need to get over this bacon fad and think of something else...

Pork is great and is we should enjoy. But good pork is good pork doesn't need to be Bacon everything. There's pulled pork, pork burgers, peameal cut bacon, ribs, ham, pork roast there are alot of great ways to enjoy Pork. The easy option is always both extremes chicken or beef BUT pork lands right inbetween...
Theo replying to a comment from Richard / July 26, 2013 at 07:19 am
That is not really absolutely true either, though I understand what you are saying. Diabetes is a result of what you eat. If a person overate by consuming 5000 carrots a day it is unlikely that they would get diabetes, though there calorie consumption would be quite high.

As to the CNE, isn't the food hall kind of endemic of the problems of what it has become. As the name implies, an exhibition used to be to show off all the things that people wouldn't normally see or experience. Just like the homewares section used to have crazy things like microwave ovens (which now shows off stuff from the shopping channel), or the international market had things not readily available (which are now available everywhere else) so too does the food hall have the same degradation from a place where people could once try the exotic, to a place where people could easily replicate the food at home by basically adding bacon to everything. Better to go to the ribs and bbq area.

Poor pigs :(
Evelyn Monminie / July 26, 2013 at 11:19 am
What a way to spoil good bacon. By wedging it between Nutella and Ice cream. It gives me the shudders.
Canuck 703 / July 26, 2013 at 11:33 am
Maybe the Epic Burger. What's with the Nutella kick I allways found it horrid.
Alex replying to a comment from Sammy / July 26, 2013 at 03:29 pm
A pig's only useful to dig up truffles. They are not fit to eat; they are for sniffing things out. The meat tastes the way urine smells. Truly disgusting. Cannot imagine eating pork ever again.

Vegans can bring their own "food"
LN / July 26, 2013 at 06:26 pm
Not every meat eater eats pork. I'm seriously tired of seeing that shit everywhere.

Vegans are losers who have a 'unique' diet just to get attention. Fuck off!

Aren't the people who have this stuff during their 1-2 visits to the CNE this year "occasionally splurging"?

Hooray for zero knowledge of nutrition indeed. Bacon is actually pretty good for you as a stand-alone food. You're a self-proclaimed nutrition expert so I'd expect you to know that.

"vegans are not losers. and we dont do what we do just to get attention. how would you like if animals ate you?"

You're a Vegan because you don't want to eat animals?....

Not eating meat = Vegetarian
Not eating animal by-products (like milk and eggs...) = Vegan

You "Vegans" don't even know what you are half the time. You just know that you all like to be really pretentious when it comes to food.

That might be fun.

Cool, I always wanted to have a quad bypass, maybe, now I can get one....NOT!!!!

PORK is great. Good quality pork has such a good taste to cook, as well it adds a great addition to your menu/recipe.
Pork is soooo goood...
Mike replying to a comment from Sammy / July 28, 2013 at 11:05 pm
Sammy is right.
You wanna eat local? Residents and Restaurants should be purchasing meats from Quality Meat Packers Ltd. Doesn't get any fresher than that. You can buy the same thing 10 days older at the grocery store after its shipped and stocked...
Clint / July 28, 2013 at 11:59 pm
LONG LIVE THE PORK! You guys are a viral hit!
Heather / July 29, 2013 at 11:24 am
No more pork? No more BACON?!!! Are you MAD!????
Mark / August 9, 2013 at 01:40 pm
Hope we can get real corndogs this year, I can buy Pogos almost everywhere. The trill of the CNE in part is the food, it needs to be orignal. In past years its become too commercial with venders that can be found 365 days a year on every second street corner.
Pretentious replying to a comment from lol / August 12, 2013 at 05:41 am
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd say it's more pretentious to assume that most vegans don't have a clue what they are. Just because it doesn't say "BACON" in the title doesn't mean it's vegan-friendly, and it really isn't a crime to ask.
It's totally fair and logical that someone who chooses not to eat animals would also choose not to eat their unborn young.. as for their milk, that may be a personal choice, but at the end of the day it's an option that should be available.

They make it up as they go.
tyrannosaurus tdot replying to a comment from SJ / August 12, 2013 at 10:53 am
Agreed! Bring your fruits and or veggies! I don't mind!

I love my meat! Pork, beef AND chicken! Hell - I even eat horse meat!

Why do vegans have to push their weight around? Most carnivores don't care about you. Don't care about us. :)
CLA replying to a comment from hellebelle / August 12, 2013 at 03:33 pm
I agree! Can we stop it with the pork obsession, already? It's sickening.

Bacon Nation - Wednesday August 21 - 9PM

Okay so here is my experience with Bacon Nation. We wait in line for 15 min, which is fine because it was busy. Ordered 2 of these things. The guy tries to give me one that was sitting out for 10 min. Then tries to tell me it was there for a minute. I clearly saw how long it was there. Requested a new one. Then he tries to pull a fast one and tried to give me the same one by pulling it from behind the deep fryer and pretending it was a new one. Then keeps trying to say it's new and fresh. Of course I called him out on it. When they gave me a minute of back a forth they finally make me a new one. I understand how it can be overwhelming and busy at times but after situations like epic burger and how they got shut down due to food contamination I can't believe the ignorance of the guy who tried to feed me a 10 min old deep fried hotdog that sat behind a greasy dirty deep fryer and tried to make it seem as if it was new and fresh.
