Dinesafe TorontoThis week on DineSafe was a strange one — no closures, few conditional passes, and infraction tallies in the single digits! I know, I'm skeptical too. For whatever reason, the offenders were few following this week's inspections, with a couple of chain spots (Bulk Barn, Mr. Sub) beefing up the list of delinquents. Worst of all this week was London Tap House, with a still-not-too-bad report of seven infractions. Here's a glimpse of some of the reports on DineSafe this week.

Wow, just click on Cafe St. Germain and read some of the comments. Won't be going there anytime soon.

Sub shops are being nabbed a lot lately..

Most sub shops I have walked into, have extreme high heat in them from baking the bread, or from the employees wanting high heat. The vast amount of time, they keep those toppings out in the open - The meat, tuna, Bacon, sitting there in room temperature conditions... Yuck!

They really need to do a better job, keeping their stuff fresh! Sliding refrigerator doors, like they have in real deli's would help, instead of having it wide open.

I honestly don't know how good of a job "Dinesafe" actually does from preventing restaurants/grocery stores and the like from problems. I had filed a complaint regarding a restaurant I lived beside who had serious violations. They were keeping raw meat/vegetables outside in their back alley way which faced my apartment. There were flies everywhere during the summer, constantly and I can't really imagine how contaminated their food must have been. Dinesafe got back to me promptly and visited the restaurant promptly in which case they supposedly discovered numerous other violations which they did not give me details about. Then there was a pest control van in the restaurants back alley, and soon after that MY apt had a cockroach problem. Of which I also brought to the attention of Dinesafe. They kept visiting, issuing them fines, and then leaving and that was it. I find that pretty deplorable as I have NO IDEA how bad a restaurant could possibly be before closure. I don't know how bars get shut down easily for over capacity and yet these places continue operating when they are a hazard to the communities health. Suffice to say, we had to move out of that apartment primarily due to not wanting to be in the vicinity of that restaurant and its problems.

@Eva, can you tell us the name of the restaurant or the area? Street address or intersection? Thanks in advance.

If that's the Bulk Barn in Woodbine Centre, I'm not surprised. Worked there years ago, and even then it was a cesspit. Was told by the managers to skip over bins that 'looked clean' during closing procedures. And there were mouse traps in the backroom.

I found a dead mummified mouse in one of the bins when I worked there.. The manager told me to toss it out and carry on.

Yeah, there used to be a lot more comments on the page but the owner must have had them purged and the commenting disabled. The place went bankrupt back in November after not being able (or choosing not) to pay rent.

They also don't pay their employees and are extremely unsanitary in the workplace. The owner didn't even know what a Food Handler's Certification was or if they even needed one!
