This week on DineSafe: Cake House, Canton Chilli, Lemongrass, Mad Dog, Menalon, Paully's, The Spoke Club, Tortilla Flats

Posted by Robyn Urback / June 26, 2012

This week on DineSafe saw a surprising new addition: the Spoke Club. While conditional pass-recipients such as Canton Chilli and Lemongrass are no stranger to the yellow flag, the Spoke Club received its first less-than-stellar review. An inspector found the swanky supper club guilty of 10 infractions, none of which included making non-members feel bad about themselves. On a similar note, Tortilla Flats got its first conditional pass after years of clean inspections, which coupled with the latest bout of concrete falling from the Gardiner probably means that this city is going to hell. Here are some of the notable mentions of DineSafe this week.

Not surprised about Tortilla Flats. I've only been once but the nachos I ate were gross and lukewarm and I had a stomachache for hours after.

Tortilla Flats comes as no surprise. The food is terrible and has made me feel sick on more than one occasion. They can't get the food or their watered down drinks right.

Tortilla Flats was great back in the day when it was located at Spadina...now it's pathetic, the food is crap ...lost what made it special a long time ago..

Hate to pile on Tortilla Flats but unfortunately it is warranted. Went there last summer with a friend on a weekend afternoon, had a half decent meal. Towards the end of the meal we noticed something furry up in the ceiling near the air ducts. At first we thought it might just be one of their quirky decorations...except it was moving, it turned out to be a squirrel.

Also, just about everyone I've mentioned that place to has said they're pretty damn sure their debit card was compromised after using the ATM at Tortilla Flats. BEWARE!

Had to share my Tortilla Flats story. I was eating dinner there, as I had several times before, when I could clearly see mice running around the open kitchen. I mentioned it to the waitress. Her response? Shoulder shrug, "Meh, everyone has mice around here. What do you want us to do about it?" She couldn't even have bothered to lie to me and say they'd do something about it. After picking my jaw off the floor, I left, haven't been back since, and have been telling anyone I could to never go there.

@Laura 100% in agreement. The Nachos there are gross, soggy, and lukewarm. None of the toppings were too fresh either.

I honestly don't see the point of Tortilla Flats. The food is below mediocre. I think the reason it manages to stay in business is a combination of location, price point, and the fact that it's frequented by teens who don't have enough experience to know better.

Tortilla Flats is garbage but I'm going to switch it up and say "toldja so" to everyone I know who makes Canton Chilli their Spadina Ave. eatery of choice.
