And Here Comes Lakeshorelicious

Posted by Tim / September 18, 2008

LakeshoreLiciousJust when I thought Roncylicious had taken the licious concept to its natural conclusion, I've discovered that we now have a Lakeshorelicious.

Starting this Saturday, September 20th, and running through October 18th, 13 Mimico area restaurants (yes, there are actually 13 restaurants in Mimico) will be offering special prix-fixe dinner menus.

Kicking off the month long licious-fest, organic chocolate shop Sitting Around Eating Bonbons is throwing a tasting event this Saturday where anyone who stops by can get two for one mouth-fulls of delectable treats like mixed nut brittle, truffles, chocolate bars, apricot bites and espresso bean clusters.

Some of the other participating restaurants and establishments worth a look include Everest Indian Cuisine, Cafe du Lac and The Empanada Company.

Is Cafe du Lac's poutine any good? I am craving simple Montreal poutine. Squeaky curds please!

notdowtowncoolenoughforyoulicious?

how about intendedforsouthetobicokecommunitydevelopmentlicious?

I don't think having restaurants collectively participate in a prix-fixe event is "played out" or "corny". I think it's a good idea, and I'll be there to support it.

Thanks Jerrold, look forward to seeing you there !

I live in that area and its pretty easy to tell that the various restaurants and deli's in the area are trying get some more exposure and i think its great!

BTW, its not as if its more the a 10 min street car ride from the hipsturs in Parkdale !

I don't think RBeezy meant to imply that the event itself was "played out" or "corny", but was referring to the cringe-inducing name.

One of the participants of "Roncylicious" defended the naming convention as "taking the piss out of events like Winter/Summerlicious who exclude a lot of restaurants".

I'm all for bringing business to lesser-known eateries, but really, the Winter/Summerlicious names were stupid-sounding to begin with. (In my opinion, anyway.)

It's a great idea, and only the "...licious" names are overly used. It promotes the area and helps boost local economy. People are always pointing out how local businesses are joining the deadpool. Well, that's because no one is going to these shops and restaurants...isn't that simple? It may be that the restaurants only have their own interests in mind, but at least in the end, it draws people to the area and help the community. It's a good way to explore new areas if you're looking for something different (and away from the disgustingly commercialized Queen West aka Eaton Centre outdoor version.) It's a breathe of fresh air sometimes to really see Toronto and its immense cultural influences by seeing beyond the popular areas.
