Let Them Eat Cake!

If you happen to be walking in the Queen/Bathurst area this weekend, be sure to check out a guilt-free indulgence. Dufflet Pastries is located at 787 Queen Street West (3 blocks west of Bathurst on the side). I ran in there for a quick sugar fix and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of their products.

Mostly famous for her cakes, Dufflet Rosenberg began baking nearly 30 years ago and it shows. Dufflet's Fresh Collection is made with natural ingredients with no artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives. The prices are very reasonable, with cookies ranging in the $1.50 range and tarts and brownies ranging from $2.25 to $4.00.

Besides sweets, there are also a selection of baked snacks such as spanakopita, empanadas, and other assorted fillo-wrapped indulgences. The atmosphere is pleasant, and there is a small seating area should you wish to linger or take a break from the bustle of Queen Street. It's a definite "check it out".

Dufflet is great. I got my wedding cake there - chocolate fudge with white buttercream icing - and they did a great job. The presentation was gorgeous and the cake was dense, rich and moist. We just cracked into the top tier we froze for our one-month anniversary (couldn't wait a whole year) and it held up surprisingly well. If you're interested in getting a wedding cake there, go in and let them know - they'll give you samples (out of the freezer, mind you, but for free).
