Eating Out: Cha Liu Dim Sum Shop

Posted by / March 5, 2005

Are you sick of All Day Dim Sum restaurants? Oh wait, let me rephrase that ... DO you get sick from All Day Dim Sum restaurants? I have. My hyper-sensitive digestive system can't take eating Dim Sum at odd hours due to the nature of some restaurants keeping their fare warm under hot bulbs. But, I love dim sum's finger portion cuisine so much.

So the heavens sent me to Cha Liu Dim Sum Shop at Yonge, north of Eglinton.

A Dim Sum restaurant so good, it even gets cooking guru Bonnie Stern's stamp of approval.

Albeit a tad expensive than downtown Chinatown's prices, the atmosphere, quick, friendly and efficient service is worth the extra paid. Not to mention the food.

The food is served fresh, piping hot and delicious. I still can't get over the Fried Shrimp and Mango roll. (You MUST Try!)

Dining out with a fellow dim sum connaisseur, he and I give it our stamp of approval. We'll go as far to say it's THE BEST All Day Dim Sum resturant there is.

Hmmm.... I've walked past this place many a time and decided: naaaaaaah. But I think I will try it now.

I've eaten here once, I find the quality good but inconsistant depending on the specialties order.
It is a bit more expensive, but, when the urge for dim sum hits at 5pm on a civic holiday this is the place to go.

However, chic decor doesn't always justify inconsistant quality and higher price tag.

agree with the prices, especially if you're used to chinatown/richmond hill/markham/scarborough prices. worth the drive to other areas: $3.50 for 3 tiny spring rolls, $4.75 for shrimp dumplings - it's pretty much half the price at most other places. food quality was ok though, just didn't like the tiny portions and high prices.
