man, these (this whole series, not just this one) are some the least funny comics I have ever seen. surely there's someone in toronto that can be funny, insightful, and able to draw all at the same time??

Dave - Since when do comics have to be funny? Is the X-Men series known for its humour? No. Family Circus? No.

The end of the world is coming? I know what we can do--draw really bad comics.

And if Family Circus were more foul-mouthed and grotesque, it, too, could be “underground comix”.

I don't see any point in commenting here saying how much you dislike this comic. I can be cliche and say that no one's forcing anyone to read these. They're not badly drawn at all, unless you think comics should be photorealistic using the same crosshatching techniques as they do on paper money. This strip has recognizable characters, thick yet loose lines, and intresting/bizarre subjects/situations that could strike up light conversation through comments here. Lighten up, people.

hey they don't have to be funny.. i'd settle for thought-provoking, or clever, or insightful, or witty, or charming, or political, or revolutionary, or angry, or smart, or even cruel. what we have here though is the comic equivalent of seinfeld but without the irony or self-referential understanding -- a comic about nothing, yes, but also with no subtle points to make... about anything. and thus, a waste of space.

Jay, a great end to this series. Only... 'That Guy' in the last pannel should be giving you the thumbs up.. i swear to god, it would be awesome-o.&;nbsp; Edit it into your print version or i'll buy a fucking Hummer.

is it finally over?

What's interesting. The people who think that they are somehow loftier in their thinking because they like this cartoon, and that the people who don't like it just don't get it, or have no taste and shouldn't have an opinion at all and stick to "Hi and Lois". How dare someone actually say they don't like this comic.

What?! You don't like this comic, why, I must say sir, I am quite perplexed, you obviously have no taste and are quite mad. How dare you! A pox on you!

Oh, and Geoffrey, I'm flattered that out of all of the people who don't like this comic, you've picked me to tell "Shut up" to.

Seeing as how I have no idea who you are or what bug is up your' ass with people who dislike this cartoon and are voicing it here (and without telling each other to "shut up", like you enjoy doing).

But, really Geoffry, no one is telling you that you can't read the comic, Little One. No one is questioning your' "taste", becasue, as I seem to recall YOU putting it, people who don't like this comic have, "crap taste". But I do admire your' anonymous bravery and your' brave choice words and......oops, Geoffrey, I think your' mom is home, your' room better be clean, mister.

the lines aren't loose because theyre from the hand of a knowledgeable cartoonist. a cartoonist who has a good eye, and confidence to use quick brush strokes where need be. they're loose because they're sloppy and untrained, the artists eyes have yet to pick up a lot of subtle nuances.

bold thick lines aren't actually a good thing it just means you don't have depth in the picture, it makes it a little disorienting, of course thick lines have their positive side it's more dynamic to use them they capture your attention but you have to use them sparingly, some cartoonists and artists alike use them in really wonderful ways that work out really well.

but here it juse looks like you use the same friggin tool to draw over and over.

the author is obviously attempting to be funny, and isn't doing too well at that., everything is so hackneyed, simplistic and one dimensional all the jokes and outrage fall flat. it's like maybe something joe matt would have done in the early years of art school. Which is an obvious influence of the artist. keep trying though jay.

Steve, you really gotta take it easy, it's kind of ridiculous how personally you're taking all this.

Anyway, I like the comic, a lot. It's different and interesting, and the things it talks about I can relate to my own personal experience of toronto. If you don't like it, that's fine, we're allowed to have different tastes. I remember a lot of people harping on 'clone high' and 'samurai jack' because they didn't understand how weird they were or what they were getting at - if anything. They were still great cartoons.

Anyway, don't read it if you don't like it, cause I do and so do my friends. And we're not a bunch of idiots with no taste.

You're right, Dan..why take "Shut up, Steve" and "Steve=penis" personally from some idiot I don't even know?

Steve, that's exactly the point: you don't know me, so why should my opinion matter? The only reason I keep baiting you is because it's obvious you'll explode at the slightest provocation. I posted "Shut up Steve" simply because I wanted to see if you'd overreact. And you did. And still are.

The internet is full of jerks. I am one of them. Relax. You'll die of stress at this rate.

Your pal,

Geoff

Steve - Until you weighed in nobody had said anything about the people who liked or disliked this comic. All that had been said was that the comic was varying degrees of bad, unfunny, good or competent, and that comics needn't be funny. Where are you seeing these "people" (your word) judging those who don't like the comic? I dare you to find a single post before your first that sought to establish anyone as "loftier" (again) than those who "don't get it".

Rek, it has been said in previous posts of this "comic" that, I believe, Geoff stated that those who dislike this cartoon have "crap taste". From what I've seen, the only way people seem to defend this cartoon is by attacking the people who don't like it. I've tried to like this cartoon, I just don't (and it's not because I don't get it). All I've said from the beginning is that I'd like to see some work by other people besides this one. I'm sure the artist is a nice guy and I wish him luck. I just don't like it. I don't like the drawing and I don't think it's funny. That's just my opinion.

I don't want to offend what the artist is trying to do, and truly, I wish him well with it. I draw also, but he's actually doing it, he's found his style and voice, and he's out there, so I give him credit. And it's not that bad of a strip, and I do get it, just not my cup o' tea. He is, at least, different.

But really, Jay (Jason) good luck with this.

At the very least, you get people talking, and that's what true art is all about, isn't it?

Rek, Geoff, (and yes, Broken/Zanta...) no hard feelings.

None taken -- I started reading it about half way through and once it ended (I didn't notice the 'end' until someone here mentioned it) I went back and reread it. The story structure needs some work -- the pay off doesn't even make sense -- and I can understand whoever said the lines were too thick; some contrast between fore/background and characters would be appreciated. Over all though I wouldn't say it's a bad comic, it's just missing a few panels here and there...

I too aspire to eventually get a comic off the ground, so I respect the time and effort he's put into this.

Hey Jason,
Don't listen to those fools, your comic is on point. Who ever buys an SUV and does not really need one deserves to be hunted down by insurgents. Anyone who thinks otherwise can do the world a favor and suck a tail pipe.
