It does indeed appear Stephan is a con artist and pathological liar. My experience took place about 3 years ago when he had two locations on Queen East, my purchase totalled $195.00, the sales clerk ran my card through on one of the old fashioned systems, then said she'd be back once she ran through on the electronic device across the street, my fault should have realized I would be charged twice. I was, and contacted Stephen immediately with a copy of my
Visa bill outlining the two charges for the same product. Experienced the usual back and forth as everyone else until it as too late to cancel the charges on my card. All the while Stephan assured me he 'was on it'. After a couple of months it appeared he had no intention of correcting the issue. Sent him a letter to inform him we would never step foot into his shop again (we're shoppers who prefer to keep our dollars local). Also, informed all my neighbours on Heward Avenue that he is is crook. I too wonder how he has stayed in business.

oddly enough the person who you are referring to as to swiping cards twice in my store was fired and charged....she then went on to a store down in the beaches where she did exactly the same thing and again was charged...perhaps you could follow up with the 55 division police as they are quite aware of the situation

Stephan's response to Deb Mac makes no sense. Credit card charges would go to a merchant account, not the personal account of his former sales assistant. He would have received the money. Deb, you should contact your credit card company. Most banks reimburse against fraudulent charges on credit cards.

As an FYI, the Leslieville store has a note in the window that he will be open again on July 5 but only on Thur, Fri, Sat until Aug 1 and then the store will be shutting down.

I'd like to add my voice to those who have been ripped off by flik. I gave Stephan a piece of furniture to sell on consignment and acording to Stephan it was sold some time ago, several months in fact. I actually have an invoice from him dated March 21, 2010. I have yet to see any money and whenever I contact him through e mail, he tells me a different story.And his store is never open. Finally after chasing him for months, we made what I thought was an appointment to meet at the store to collect my money. He never returned any attempts by me to finalize a meet time. I am out over a thousand dollars. My only recourse is small claims which I am persuing. I would even take merchandise in lieu .I really don't know why he feels he has to lie and mislead so much and to so many people. He's got a great store but has now lost my patronage and that of everyone I know. Is there a possibility of some sort of class action suit? Perhaps a call to Revenue Canada might help to even the score.

I am so dumbfounded of how many people this small business man has taken to the cleaners. Really has the justice system failed??? How could someone be allowed to own and run a business and get away with all that he has??? I can't believe that the civil courts, police and the judicial system allows this petty thief get away with this and allows it to continue. Too many innocent people are being taken advantage of. I think it's time some slaps a lean on his entire inventory and store and home and what ever else this crook owns.
And really this man is allowed to adopt kids too....ok this one is too much.....for god sake will someone put this guy out of business!!!

I have recently experienced a similar sitation with Stephan Howard.

We are esclating our issue through legal channels.

we will also report this siutation to the BBB, police and Canada Revenue. Does anoyone have contact info (i.e. name, phone #,email) of people handling the Stephan Howard file at any of these organizations?

Thanks to Ann for posting such a comprehensive list of options. As one of Stephan Howard's many victims, I have often felt helpless and frustrated, unsure of how to go about getting the refund he has promised countless times. He even made another promise to me today that he would have a refund ready by the end of next week.

After 6 months of having him avoid our emails, phone calls and letters, offering only a long string of excuses and lies, my husband and I feel that we have no choice but to pursue legal action.

Though I would love nothing more than to just get my money back and put and end to this ordeal, it has become equally important to lend my voice to all the other Stephan Howard victims out there in the hopes that he will never be able to steal from hard-working community members again.

Hello Everyone,

As suggested by others, my husband and I decided to contact the police today. We called the main number, 416-808-2222, and requested that an officer visit us to file a report of fraud. An officer was here in less than an hour, and listened to our story. A report will be filed and a fraud investigator is going to be assigned to our file within the next few days. We are encouraged by the meeting and feel that it was an effective way to voice our concerns to appropriate authorities. I would encourage you all to do the same!

so...the list continues - there is some truth to what is on the site - but I am working and have worked on making amends to those who were out of deposits for the sofas....Mark and I will resolve ours...but some of you are just really making up stories...
I am aware of everything that goes on in this and the law is also on my side - slander is a thing that you need to be extra careful of and believe me..I am well aware of how to use the small claims system as well...

there has been a great stride in resolution and it is my aim to resolve with anyone...I sure hope all of you get to be on the receiving end one day...
