It's Deadpool for Peter's Cajun, Le Gourmand on Yonge, Michelle's Brasserie and Revolution Fitness

Posted by Tim / January 27, 2010

Peter's CajunSome surprising names have found their way into our first deadpool roundup on 2010. Peter's Cajun Creole Pizza is chief among them, long time home to some of the more interesting pizza toppings at the corner of Queen and Parliament. They served very tasty chicken wings too. The dreaded note on the door from their landlord specifies that rent was overdue. Perhaps they were a victim of an ill-fated expansion, having taken over Mr. Tasty next door and turned it into Peter's Corner. The new place too has been shuttered.

Le GourmandAt Yonge and Eglinton, mid-towners were surprised to find the second location of Le Gourmand closed last week. The note on the door from Minto properties says they didn't pay their rent. No word yet on whether troubles lay ahead for the original location at Richmond and Spadina.

RevolutionHigh-end gym Revolution Fitness suddenly closed last week, surprising members, many of whom had iPods and gym clothes stashed in their over night locker. In a note posted on this page a company spokesperson offers no reasons for the closure but promises members won't be charged any extra membership dues and can contact the property manager to retrieve their belongings.

And, finally, blogTO readers Robert V. informs us that Yorkville stalwart Michelle's Brasserie closed on January 14th. A notice on the door stated they owed $55,000 in rent. But good news for those looking for restaurant supplies! They're auctioning off its contents today at 2pm. Here's a notice that was posted to Craigslist:

I called Peter's last week to order delievery, and the guy that answered the phone let me know that they are only closed for a couple of weeks while they move to another location. I can't remember where he said that was (I was disappointed I wasn't going to have their wings that night) but he did say the new place would have the same phone number.

Richtree at Brookfield Place (Yong and Welington) closed too. Apparently the newly resurrected Marche will be moving in in a few months....

it is so hard to do any business in toronto given our poor subway/transit system and poor weather conditions

Good point. I also blame our plastic bag tax, unions . . . um, our undeveloped waterfront, bylaws against skating on ponds . . . girls hockey not getting enough ice time, Rogers and Mel Lastman. They make it so hard to do business. So hard.

Blame anything. The truth is that the market drives it. If not enough people support a store/restaurant or what ever, unfortunately it doesn't last. High, high rents suck. The land lords don't seem to care. There's always another business to move in.

I was just at Richtree/Marche last week. My friend and I were talking to the employees and they told us they are rennovating and re-opening in September.

The Subway is great; its the streetcar service that's fucking pathetic. Between 4 and 7 its usually a half hour or more wait in the downtown core.

No mention of the awesome ponytail-ed portrait of Peter?

Well, my boyfriend is still mourning Peter's. He works in the area and relied on the place for an awesome lunch. Still, glad to know Peter's will be elsewhere in the city -- maybe near MY work? :D

Not surprised about Peter's. Took them two hours to deliver a pizza, and I live about an 8 minute drive away. P.S.: the pizza wasn't good.

Nooooooooooo! My default pizza ordering spot, gone. The roasted chicken, roasted red peppers, sundried tomato, and pesto was a thing of beauty. Totally sucks. Pizzaiolo, you're up.
