Siddhartha Enters the Deadpool

Posted by Tim / August 21, 2008

Siddhartha KingThis may be old news for those frequently around King West, but Siddhartha has officially entered the Deadpool. Sort of.

I first noticed that Siddhartha had closed a couple weeks back, and fearing the worst I made a pit stop in Little India to see if their original restaurant had been shuttered as well. Luckily for Siddhartha fans, it's still in business and continues to be one of the busier spots in the east-end neighbourhood.

But for some reason Siddhartha couldn't replicate their success on King. I suspect the whole white table cloth thing was just too conservative for the area. And even though the Indian buffet was at least as good as the one at the other location, the restaurant just seemed to get lost in the mix in a neighbourhood alternately dominated by pubs or haute cuisine.

It's very sad it didn't last there! I live 5 minutes from Little India and it's my favorite place to visit. Always packed and good bargin for buffet take-out. I thought the new one was in a good location...

I lived in Little India for years and made a point of exploring all the restaurants in the neighbourhood. I do enjoy the food at Siddhartha but if I look into a packed Indian restaurant and the only Indians in the place are the ones serving the food I figure thats a hint to move on. Siddhartha is that place in Little India. I figure people from India are the experts on their own food so I go where they're eating. I work about three blocks from the where the location was on King street and while I am not happy that there are less Indian food restos in the neighbourhood I'm not that partial to that one. Now if only King Palace would have moved down here instead of on Church...

Lukas: That's interesting that you say that because everytime I've been there it's been packed with Indian families. Maybe I don't go there often enough...
