Daddy O's Enters the Deadpool

Posted by Tim / July 27, 2008

Lit CafeDaddy's O's, a once popular milk-bar on Roncesvalles which we reviewed back in April 2007 has closed its doors. They actually shut down back at the beginning of the summer, but there was some confusion about whether or not it would re-open.

At first, there was a note on the door that read "Gone Fishing" and a few weeks ago its fate became clear with the emergence of a new sign for Lit Cafe (pictured above), an espresso bar that looks to honor its former inhabitant by keeping panini on the menu. As the sign says, Lit Cafe is scheduled to open in September.

I was wondering if this was just a 'rebranding'. Anyone have the scoop?

BOOOOO! I loved Daddy-Os. Their milkshakes were amazing.

Well, it's good to see they still have grilled cheese on the menu...

I used to frequent Daddy O's regularly...until I a few trips in a row brought hair and a piece of plastic in different meals on separate occasions. Can't stand my waffles with a side of hair.
Lit looks pretty cool and worth a try once it opens.

And Toronto continues its proud tradition of slowly killing anything remotely different from the norm...

The vibe of this place was great, and the innovative milkshake and panini choices were reminiscent of some of the interesting menu items you'd find in New York.

Of course, I suppose it could be said that their decision to open such a niche restaurant on Roncesvalles didn't help, given that Toronto ends at Dufferin for most downtowners.

Hey, I am new to the area so I had never been to Daddy O's, but I met the new owners the other day and they are really nice people, one of the owners is a good looking young guy named joe and the place is looking awesome with this really cool reclaimed wood beam bar...I can't wait til it opens to check it out....

My friends and I would get together once a month to go here.
We loved everything there. The milkshakes were so good and the waffles were great. I loved how they interestingly named everything on the menu.
I really miss it.
