There's no denying that climate change is among the hottest topics of our generation, but too often it's discussed and described in either catastrophic, or worse, scolding tones. Future Weather personalizes the issue, through the eyes of eighth-grader Lauduree who attempts to come to terms after her single mother abandons her by focusing on her rural home, and a science experiment she hopes will slow climate change. It's both an intimate film about three generations of women, and a movie about the uncertainty of what future weather might truly entail.

The film has been an official selection at the Tribeca and Seattle International Film Festivals, and director Jenny Deller has been named one of "10 Filmmakers to Watch" by the Independent.

Running as part of the 13th annual Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival, Future Weather will be screening at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, and we're offering up three pairs of tickets.

Hannah Georgas might not yet be a household name, but with a new self-titled album debuting soon, and a fall tour opening for Mother Mother, she's well on her way with catchy, pop hooks and a voice that's au courant. The Newmarket, Ontario native has set up camp in Vancouver following two successful discs, a Best New Artist nomination at the 2011 Juno Awards, and having had several of her songs featured on various TV shows. A Canadian talent through and through, Georgas also performed with Lilith Fair.

Japan might not necessarily be known for its international reach when it comes to rock bands, but rock duo B'Z have released 18 albums and sold over 80 million CDs in their native Japan, and gained notoriety as one of the best-selling musical artists in the world. They're returning to North America for a fourth tour, and celebrating with the release of their first English-language release. They've been around since 1988, and over the years they've collaborated with Linkin Park to raise funds for victims of the Japan tsunami, and jazz guitarist Larry Carlton for a Grammy award-winning album. B'Z were also the first Asian artists to have been inducted into the Hollywood Rock Walk, and guitarist Tak Matsumoto is only the fifth guitarist to have a signature Gibson model.

TIFF is officially upon us, and officially unavoidable--line-ups, media tents, and of course, hard-to-get-into parties. One of these hot-ticket events is the Mongrel Media TIFF party, to celebrate their films at this year's festival. Toronto's Labour of Love returns to the Guvernment and the Kool Haus this weekend for a second year. This two-day EDM music festival filled with acts such as Laidback Luke, Paul Van Dyk, Dirty South and Gareth Emery, grants you full access to an array of bands spread out over both venues through one ticket.
