hottest day toronto 2015

Today was the hottest day of the year in Toronto

With the Labour Day long weekend almost upon us, it's natural to start mourning the loss of our short Canadian summer. But, don't despair just yet because we're currently experiencing some of the balmiest weather of the year.

According to meteorologists at City News, today is unofficially the hottest day of 2015. The thermometer at Pearson clocked 32.7 C this afternoon, beating both July 28 and August 17 by 0.1 C.

Earlier this summer, the City of Toronto and Environment Canada issued heat alerts to the public about the dangers of this extreme weather. In July, the city even kept its public pools open late. Today however, they issued no such alerts.

If the heatwave keeps up above 30C tomorrow, you can expect a heat alert to be issued. As for the yearly record, we'll have to wait until Thursday for Environment Canada to confirm if today really did inch out past scorchers for hottest of the season honours.

Do you think it feels like the hottest day of the year? Let us know in the comments.
