Rob Ford says he still drinks, but is done with drugs

Posted by Derek Flack / February 25, 2014

Rob Ford Today ShowThree months ago Rob Ford spoke with Today Show host Matt Lauer as part of a string of interviews the embattled mayor took after revealing he had smoked crack cocaine. During the segment, Ford dared Lauer to check in on him in five or six months to see if he had implemented the changes he promised to make. Well, it's three months later, and Today Show producers just couldn't wait to get our mayor back on the show.

It's not the most engaging interview you'll ever see, as Ford regurgitates many of the lines we've heard from him before -- you know, "saving tax payers money," "moving forward," "we're doing great" -- but it gets at least a little interesting when Lauer asks about the incident at Steak Queen. Just like he did last time, Ford responds by noting that "he's not perfect," but perhaps more importantly, that Lauer has jumped the gun by interviewing him after just three months.

Watch the whole interview here.

"Totally done with alcohol, come to Jesus moment"....yeah right. He's such a liar. I wish interviewers would take the damn gloves off with this guy.
W. K. Lis / February 25, 2014 at 10:53 am
Why is it that Rob Ford seems to have interviews only with U.S. news reporters or Canadian edited Ford-followers?
Jason / February 25, 2014 at 11:06 am
He seems blazed in this interview!
the lemur / February 25, 2014 at 11:10 am
In other words, Ford is totally not done with being a lying sack of shit 24/7.

"The Return of Rob Ford" ?

He never left unfortunately.
Irwin Mimico / February 25, 2014 at 11:18 am
Why can't Mr. Ford have a drink? He is human, and there's nothing wrong with that. This is why real MEN will vote for him and he will get reflected . Sorry guys I know you don't like me but it's the truth.
Kristine / February 25, 2014 at 11:18 am
He is a douche. He is a raging alcoholic. I hope he is sent out of office asap. He is without a doubt a lying sack of shit. can't stand him.

"I believe you."

Anyway, he's not his usual energetic self in this interview, which is... interesting.

But Irwin! / February 25, 2014 at 11:36 am

REAL men can handle their booze and know when to quit. Ford drinks like an irresponsible teen. I have no problem with him having a casual drink time to time, but He has proven over and over this is impossible because he has a problem. Also, there is something extremely wrong with it when you drink and drive. But I guess as a Real Man you are ok with this.
iliveattheverve / February 25, 2014 at 12:40 pm
"I've got 34 people registered against me". Talk about self-centred. You've got 34 people campaigning FOR the taxpayers of this city, you asshole!

I am just so happy for Rob and Toronto.
Seymour / February 25, 2014 at 12:54 pm
There's no way Rob will be mayor again... yet the idiots in Etobicoke will likely let him keep his seat on city council.

We need a real journalist to smash him to pieces not an opportunist or puppet of the distraction factory.

The fifth estate has and continues to fail us here in Canada. Want to see a real journalist, try bringing in Vincent Browne to interview Rob Ford and watch what a quality reporter does.

Though I don't mind looking at Lois Lane/Robin Doolittle...

rob ford got OWNED at todays city hall annoucement. check out the audio on soundcloud. there is ablink to it on the toronto star page. you can hear rofo is slowly cracking under the pressure of running for mayor, pretending he is still in power, trying not to think about his next cocaine or crack fix. and on top of it all, his drug-dealing brother constantly breathing down his neck in hopes they win the next election. thats some tough times for fordsie. my bet is rofo cracks and totally loses it this wednesday when he goes to ottawa for the mayors conference. i can only imagine the chuckles he will get from ALL the other mayors who are NOT doing drugs, partying with prostitutes or beating their wives. f* the fords. f*ukin trash.

Now hold on, there may be 34 people also running for Mayor, but some like the guy with the last name Anderson, run in every election, and in Anderson's case, he's actually a white supremest. So some of the candidates are just as much nut jobs as the current mayor.

No end in sight for increases to everything, a lying loser for a mayor, crime on the rise (big time), etc etc nothing really good to say anymore. Please Toronto, think about what's good for the city, it's not a lying , druggie alcoholic hog like Rob! I am so fed up of Toronto and what it's become! It may be time to think of moving to the burbs!!

Toronto is in a state of confusion. A mayor of a city is supposed to represent his/her city. Is Rob Ford doing this? If so, we're all ok with a delusional, boozing, all out lying flounder making a face for us. I too, one day will be hopefully moving on to Oakville, Richmond hill, or maybe Whitby, provided I can save enough to buy my own home.

iSkyscraper replying to a comment from Irwin Mimico / February 26, 2014 at 09:00 am
Yeah, Irwin, Rob showed you his affection for customer service and angry ranting but guess what, the cement plant is still in your neighborhood and all you got was a chance to play Angry White Man on the radio.

A real politician, a smart one who understood the nuances of the zoning laws and could read the local regulations might have been able to actually help you by finding where the plant was in violation and apply some pressure to the operator. Such a politician would also know how to build consensus and get some other political leaders on board, perhaps to put heat on the company's other operations or clients.

You got nothing, and will continue to get nothing, from the dimwitted child with impulse control issues who somehow you deem qualified for office. Have fun with that.

I have to agree with some posts here Toronto is already a mess far less appealing than it was even 10 years back. Too much crap to deal with you can't even open a window these days or some thug will probably slit your throat! Why hasn't Rob Ford done something about crime, guns, the bobble heads that ruin our city?! Instead he embraces them, encourages them to flock here, to stay by befriending "them" and buying drugs from them! A Scarborough subway will not fix our problems! Mr Ford is just loving the attention well if he actually was charged as he should have been for all of his criminal activities he'd be behind bars with all of his friends, drug dealers. We all know he's a liar. Don't let him run Toronto for another 4 years!

Etobicoke's Coke-Fueled Shame-Generation Project replying to a comment from iSkyscraper / February 26, 2014 at 10:29 am
"I firmly believe that when we hit the end of summer - we'll see Rob Ford back out of the mayoral race and try to run for his city council seat in Etobicoke. "

I agree. But if Rob doesn't back out , I can also see Doug winning his seat, Rob losing the election, and then Doug stepping aside so Rob can have his old seat back on Council.

Sadly, we aren't through with seeing Rob Ford in Council Chambers. But at least there is no chance in hell he'll ever be mayor again.

And, to echo what someone else mentioned earlier, it's likely we are going to see Rob Ford have a serious health scare, like a heart attack or something, that will sideline him for weeks, if not longer. That'll just add more spectacle to a post-Ford Council that just wants to get on with business but will always be yolked to the Bros. Ford as long as either/both of them are on Council.

Sad times, these.
Astin replying to a comment from Irwin Mimico / February 26, 2014 at 10:36 am
So has your cement plant problem been fixed? Has Ford or one of his staff been following up with progress reports?

Even if he has, that's the job for a Councillor, not The Mayor of a city of 2.8 million people. Which is why he was popular in that role, and is terrible in his current one.
Graham - yes, but no replying to a comment from Graham / February 26, 2014 at 10:45 am
Actually Graham, I agree that Ford has to go, and that the Fords run with some pretty low-life thugs, but you're way off about Toronto and crime and safety in general.

Despite what scare-mongering media outlets like CTV or the Sun will tell you, the crime rate has dropped for the past 15 years. Violent crime has long steadily declined. This is a safe city, especially given its' size.
What????? / February 26, 2014 at 10:51 am
user-pic complains about a local industry polluting a residential street and all Ford does for him is get the man a slot on Goldhawk Live???

Instead of pointing him to a TV show, why wouldn't the mayor instead actually do the work himself, as he was elected to do? Why wasn't he following up with the right departments or the right senior staffers? Why wasn't he wading into the community, collecting consensus, discussing options, chairing a roundtable with the concrete plant and the locals? Why wasn't Ford front-and-centre for the very district that not only has reelected him all these years, but that catapulted him into the Mayor's chair???

Why? Because he literally doesn't care to do the job. Rob Ford wants to BE Mayor, not WORK as Mayor. And THAT'S the man Etobicokians decided was good enough to represent the City for them. get what you pay for, so how you like THEM apples, Etobi-choke?
wow...silence is defeaning / February 26, 2014 at 11:11 am

Frame that, Irwin! / February 26, 2014 at 11:19 am
ISkyscraper's comment about Irwin Mimico's cement plant fixation should be printed off, framed, and read every day by Irwin whenever they feel the urge to vote for a criminal nincompoop. Irwin is the poster child for anti-democratic forces in Toronto/Canadian society. I mean, "You can fool all of the Irwins, all of the time..." Apparently, you can.

(btw...i remember when you used to clean dave's clock the same way. he too always came back with some pathethic mewling, studdering reply that either made no sense or was so blatantly a misdirect as to be laughable. keep up the fun posts!)
Graham replying to a comment from Graham - yes, but no / February 26, 2014 at 02:20 pm
Excuse me!? Facts are facts. IDC what stats say, do you listen to the news? Those are real stories. Virtually every day there's shootings or stabbings, home invasions, beatings, drug busts, rapes, missing persons, any or all of the above in Toronto. Surely you have eyes, look around! This city is an unsafe rat hole. It's over priced, full of visible minorities who've overtaken our city and much as I didn't want to say that it's a fact. Who do you think are causing most of the crime??? Look at the characters who were arrested in project brazen. Toronto has become a cesspool, a joke, with a mayor to match. Wish it was Toronto 15 years ago my friend.
Graham - yes, but no replying to a comment from Graham / February 26, 2014 at 04:58 pm
Um, stats kinda ARE facts, Graham. But for the sake of argument, let's go with your "facts are facts" model of basing things on news coverage, because stats can be manipulated, right? Like any other number.

Kinda like how news directors shape stories.

And they ARE shaped, Graham. Because I DO watch the news, and it's pretty obvious to even children that what you learn is what someone has selected to tell you. So I tend to watch all news coverage, not just one channel, because news --even hard news like crime-- is about ratings and entertainment. It's why FOX and CNN are so interesting to watch and TVO and PBS so boring, because one is sensational and concentrates on the items that will intrigue and shock, and the other is straightforward and drab as they concentrate on life as it is. I guess you live in a world of bright shiny flashing things, where TV is always on full volume and the graphics always bodyslam.

I like the wider view, where everything is considered, not just a narrow slice. I couldn't care less how entertaining it is. I think if you gave people the option they would prefer hearing things as they are. In your (white-washed) world, evil lurks behind every corner.

Well...I live here, downtown. And I have for 20 years. I don't see world you mention whatsoever, and I get around. maybe you need to leave the rec room a bit more and maybe go out in the real world and maybe say hi to that new immigrant family who just moved in down the block. You might just learn they aren't members of a triad, but just regular folk like you.

I agree Graham. It's pretty scary to be out walking alone especially after dark. I go to York U and there's been a few attacks and rapes over the past year on campus. There was a violent attack on a guy back in December on campus that wasn't even in the news. My step mom's car was broken into twice in the last 15 months, and there was a home invasion 3 doors down from my sister's house I personally don't feel very safe in Toronto anymore and yes the news has a lot to y As for bars open later, I don't think it's a good idea. I think, however, that it will be a reality someday soon.
