Letterman rounds up the greatest Rob Ford gaffes

Posted by Derek Flack / January 31, 2014

Letterman Rob FordSurprise, surprise. Rob Ford is back on the late night talk shows. In the wake of accusations that he ordered a jailhouse beating, our mayor was once again the subject of David Letterman's Top 10 list, put together under the guise that each entry is a piece of advice Ford has given to fellow Canadian bad boy, Justin Bieber.

While the Biebs' drama serves as the initial frame for the list, it actually plays as something of a greatest hits roundup of Ford gaffes over the years. You get the mayor dancing in council chambers, smashing into a television camera, falling on the football field, and screaming at former Globe & Mail columnist John Barber. For those unfamiliar with Ford's antics, this should be hilarious. For the rest of us, it's just an occasion to look down in shame.

Enough already! This stuff isn't funny. Leave Mr. Ford alone! Letterman is the least funniest out of all the late night comics. He should of retired decades ago. I always get ripped by you guys for being a ford supporter but all I'm going to say is stuff like this will just boost he's popularity ratings even more! Ford more years!

@dan -- thanks for your support!

Ford, More Tears.

The mere act of writing "Ford more Years!" automatically renders anything you have to say completely irrelevant.
stopitman / January 31, 2014 at 01:13 pm
Being voted in doesn't make Ford - or a supporter of his - any less of a moron.

I'm not a socialist, either before I'm called one. most of my views are capitalist enough that Harper would poop his pants.

probably the funniest top ten ever. ford makes even letterman hilarious.
William Strunk replying to a comment from Dan I. Mimico / January 31, 2014 at 01:15 pm
The inability of Ford supporters to write a single comment without grammar or spelling mistakes is kind of hilarious. What was that statistic again, 44% of high-school dropouts support Ford?
Joey replying to a comment from Dan I. Mimico / January 31, 2014 at 01:21 pm
It is quite obvious that you are a Rob Ford supporter judging by the multitude of grammatical errors in your posting. Here is something for all of you Ford Nation types: Instead of just being a bunch of mindless sheep who believe everything that comes out of his mouth, ask QUESTIONS. I guarantee you will find that he will not be able to back any of his numbers or statements with factual evidence. Don't think for a second that your tax dollars are being collected for no apparent reason. If he cuts your taxes, it is only for show and to keep stringing you along. He will make up the difference somewhere else. Get your head out of the sand. If you still believe he is the right person after asking questions and educating yourself, then so be it. But do NOT just sit on your butt and believe everything that comes out of his mouth. His enabler brother has gotten burned on numerous occasions because he had believed Rob's lies. Don't be a Doug.

No this isn't funny... not funny at all...
Greg / January 31, 2014 at 01:36 pm
That was a great piece. Letterman was the best back in the 80's, but as both he and his audience have got older, his humour has changed. He was a close equivalent today to Jimmy Kimmel, to my mind.
As for RoFo, he's a true sociopath (you should Google that big word Ford Nayshon), I can't wait to see him pack up his office when he gets booted out in October.

I literally laughed out loud, nice word play
Dave / January 31, 2014 at 01:43 pm
He's probably got enough material to do a few more Top Tens.
Matthew Fabb replying to a comment from Dan I. Mimico / January 31, 2014 at 01:46 pm
Ford keeps providing late night comics more material, it's so far for them to stop.

Also next week Robyn Doolittle is going to be promoting her new Rob Ford book "Crazy Town" on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, so there's that to look forward to. :)
Dan I. Mimico for Mayor! / January 31, 2014 at 01:56 pm
You can't be any worse than Rob "Abomination" Ford. Dan: Do you urinate in public? Do you use crack? Drive while drunk? Do you lie constantly, especially at work? Do you threaten co-workers, family & acquaintances? Do you incompetently manipulate accounting numbers to fool people? Do you not get along with most Co-workers? Were you demoted at work? Let us know the answers. I am available to be your campaign manager, a post I have held before.
IhateSkidmarks / January 31, 2014 at 03:49 pm
David Letterman DOES need to retire, he's not funny anymore. Who writes his material? Tired of seeing Paul too, looks like half a testicle.

You left out the fact that the top ten was about Ford advice to the un-talented Justin Bieber. That's what made it funny, for a change.

HipAnonymous / January 31, 2014 at 04:21 pm
That was one of his more thought-out top ten's (vs. what I've seen in the past few years).

But c'mon, even Ford supporters have got to laugh at Ford's face getting crushed by the camera. For all his many, many, many (etc.) faults, he can still bring so much joy.

Ford supporters: the mayor is not very happy with the recent budget and it passed. Does that not tell you how effective he is as mayor? What he says may sound good to you, but wouldn't you prefer someone who could back it up? If you want to ignorantly ignore the "liberal" candidates, at least give John Tory serious consideration.
Mr.A / January 31, 2014 at 04:27 pm
Ford could stop the late-night comics by not being such an idiotic buffoon. Ever wonder why Naheed Nenshi or Hazel McCallion are not the butt of jokes?

It seems that the official language of Ford Nation is third grade english.
Jacob replying to a comment from Mr.A / January 31, 2014 at 04:46 pm
Then there was Mel Lastman, who although compared to Ford looks like a polished diplomat, who made his share of moronic comments. The Daily Show took him to task as well.
Whaaa...? replying to a comment from Dan I. Mimico / January 31, 2014 at 04:47 pm
@Dan... Nah... it's still really funny.

Keep it up Letterman!

"least funniest," "should of," "boost he's popularity."
Wow, who would have guessed you were a Ford supporter.

Hear about that nice big fat $500,000.00 severance package for the fired CEO of PanAm Games? This is why it's great to be the friend of a Liberal politician. Do a few months of crappy work, hit the motherload, be set for life. This feels so much like the incidents with OLG, and eHealth. Why do you think police unions, teachers unions (well, every union), like the Liberals so much? Pay them anything they ask for and they will continue to vote collectively for thieves like the liberals who are involved in...

Mr. L should look at himself and his indiscretions with staff. Plus, he seriously needs dental work
mike in parkdale / February 2, 2014 at 09:26 am
I look forward to Rob Ford having to take part in an actual debate against other candidates. He won't be able to shout "no more questions" and run off to hide. Also, he can finally get called on his factual embellishments (aka lies).
Michael Jones / February 2, 2014 at 10:20 am
All these posts from Mimico are the greatest argument for de-amalgamation ever. If Etobicoke really wants to be run by a white trash mob that makes the Trailer Park Boys look like competent and well-adjusted citizens, I say let them. Cut everyone else's losses and cut Etobicoke loose to fend for itself.

If Rob Ford is re-elected, I'm going to respect my taxpayer money by getting the hell out of here. Far cheaper to by property in Hamilton anyway, and as ghetto as that town can be at times, they're not run by a sociopathic moron.

Ford knows what he's doing in politics as much as he knows football... hey, how did those Broncos do?
King Rob Ford / February 4, 2014 at 11:47 am
Hare Krishna!
The King / February 18, 2014 at 08:29 pm
Do all you perfectionists really believe Rob Ford is the only politician out there doing this stuff? Yeah he got caught lying. So did Bill Clinton! Did he resign? Let the voters speak during the next election. For those of you who like to tie one on for time to time need not reply because those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. For the rest of you please make sure your spell check is on because the English grammar professors are watching!
