Rob Ford allegedly offered $5K and a car for crack tape

Posted by Chris Bateman / December 4, 2013

toronto rob fordRob Ford offered alleged Dixon Road gang members a car and $5,000 in return for the crack video weeks before its existence was reported by Gawker and the Toronto Star, a batch of newly released court documents suggest.

In a March phone conversation logged by police, Toronto East Detention Centre inmate Siyadin Abdi called the mayor's office. Under interview, Abdi did not admit making the call but he was later heard speaking to Mohamed Siad, one of the men who allegedly tried to sell the video of Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine, and appeared to discuss an offer from Ford.

"Five thousand and a car ... what the fuck is that?," he allegedly said. Siad said he would "meet with him and ask for '150.'"

It is not clear from the documents if any of the offers were accepted or if Ford ever obtained the video.

Another key part of the ITO relates to the attempted recovery of Rob Ford's stolen cellphone. Police record that the mayor threatened to put "heat" on Dixon if the phone, allegedly stolen from 15 Windsor Road, a home police have labeled a crack house, wasn't returned promptly.

As a result, a deal was struck whereby the phone was delivered in exchange for 1.5 kgs of "kush" - marijuana.

Another portion of the documents, ordered released this evening by a Superior Court judge, suggests an alleged gang member talked about pictures of Rob Ford using heroin during a tapped phone conversation.

"Harun said that he had Rob Ford smoking on the "dugga". He said he has so much pictures of Rob Ford doing the hezza."

It also appears David Price, Rob Ford's former logistics chief, linked the video of the mayor smoking crack cocaine to the murder of Anthony Smith, but the theory was tossed out by police after conducting a series of wiretaps.

Anthony Smith, a man who appears in the notorious photograph with Rob Ford at 15 Dixon Road, was shot dead outside a nightclub on King Street in March in an act of retaliation over an unrelated robbery.

According to a sentence highlighted in the Toronto Star, "Price disclosed that the cell phone containing the recording of interest belonged to the deceased (Anthony Smith) and that it was the motive for his murder."

Rob Ford has not been charged with a crime and none of the allegations have been proven in court.

And yet a day, a week, a month from now he'll still be stubbornly sitting in his mayor's seat.

Tape?

That term alone shows Rob is being framed. Who uses tape in a digital world?

"delivered in exchange for 1.5 kgs of "kush" - marijuana"

What, so he's dealing now?

What's 1.5 kg worth these days? Hundreds? Few grand? How much?

At first I found this whole thing hilarious (and certainly well-deserved), then a bit sad, and now it seems pathetic and interminable. Thankfully, if what is being reported turns out to be true, then the legal system might be able to finally do what the voters of the inner suburbs are too stupid to do themselves, and end this clown's career.

The police will still need actual evidence if they are ever to charge Ford with anything. Not generalities and assumptions. Even phone taps aren't worth much without the actual product. They definately paint a picture but to actually seriously charge someone.

They will need a date. Time. Location. Quantities. And an actual drug to test at the center of forensic sciences.

Marion Barry was charged because the police took the pipe right from his hand and sent it for testing. Ohh and for all those suspicious packages, they were ALCOHOL. Rob was advised to not to go the liquor store anymore, as he would frequent as Mayor and of course people would recognize him.

$6500 - $7000, or thereabouts. Wholesale, of course. 1.5 kilos, sold by the quarter, half or ounce could easily fetch $30,000 to $35,000.

Oops, my math is a bit off there... You could probably make between $12,000 and $17,000 selling it by the 1/4, 1/2 or ounce. Whatever have I been smoking?!

People these are just allegations doesn't mean its a fact.

What we do know is Rob stole Matt Mayes seat at the Bills game and had a photo taken with the Hells Angels. Lets discuss the real facts. What do you think of the Hells Angels photo?

Why were my comments deleted? Tom enquired what the approximate street value of 1.5 kilos of apparently high-grade marijuana might be, and I offered my opinion in response. What is going on with BlogTO moderators these days?! It's turning into CHOWHOUND over here!

That's it? That's their smoking gun? The only thing I hear in those tapes is gang members blackmailing our Mayor (not once but twice), and the police did nothing. Way to get your priorities straight TPS!

I wouldn't put any weight behind what those skanky gang members say. They obviously thought they had game if they thought they wouldn't eventually end up in prison. What ego's.

I was watching the CBC news, and (lol), the reporter claimed that gang members like and respect Ford, so they don't want to say anything bad about him. What a joke. That's why they stole his cell phone, recorded him multiple times, blackmailed him twice, because "they respect the Mayor" CBC give your head a shake. Wonder what they do to people they don't respect. Oh yeah, they shoot them.

Shirls babe, the CBC has it wrong. Rob Ford thinks eveyone respects him BUT clearly his inner circle doesn't first the cracked out wrestling threat video that was shot right in front of him and sold to the Toronto Sun. These people are out to capitilize on thier relationship with the mayor even if they take him down to do it.

Dealers and Gang members that I've known will be your best friend some days and other days they're ripping you off but its all about the $$$. Hate them for a few days or weeks but they know you'll be back for more and if not they got customers all the time.

Hi i'm from the ford nation and I just wanna say...gravy train gravy train gravy train...damn lefties...cast not your stone at glass houses lest you lead a horse to water and be judged...he said he's sorry. So let the poor man do his job that's right for all tax abiding sitizens of etobicoke and the other proud members of the suburbs who voted him to reduce our taxes. He has saved etobicoke 5 billion dollars in taxes or have you just chosen to forget what Mayor ford keeps repeating in the media. You think you're so smart because you live in the downtown with all your hashtags and twitters. Wake up people!!

Rob Ford for Mayor!!

Too bad they didn't take the car. Then there would be some actual evidence but now once again its just talk and none of it can be proved.

I don't advocate for anyone to hang out with gang members. Wish you wouldn't either.

Just envisioned Rob Ford as host of "Lets Make A Deal", and the gang member is excitedly jumping up and down trying to decide between the car and the money.

Yeah, I know. It's been one of those days.

these drug dealers are idiots because they didn't even bother to ask what car they could get. 5 G's and a fully loaded escalade would do the trick nice! that's easy over $100,000.

This is a farse. If the police KNEW that the ITO was going to become public why did they include things like pictures of the Mayor peeing. It's not evidence majority of it is to make him look bad.

That is obviously what they were after, because they certainly didn't arrest the dealers for blackmailing the Mayor (yet). As much as I want to believe this statement I just made, I find it hard to believe the lead investigator Gary Giroux could be so petty. I'd hate to lose respect for another TPS officer. Garys' solved some difficult cases (that's why I respect him). I feel torn. Damn.

The best indicator of future behaviour is past behaviour. And as Rob Ford has continuously lied and has later been proven to have lied, I have to think that it will happen again. The man is in a losing battle with reality. Just wait for the most recent crop of Ford's statements to be proven false - that he didn't know about the video, that it was one time, that it was "probably a year ago" and the rest. Oh, and that he has 'nothing left to hide.'

Remember, this is not all the evidence; there may (or may not) be evidence of sufficient quality and quantity that the Crown still has not disclosed to the public, there may be witness statements, testimony, or a host of other things the public is not yet aware of, so the smoking gun may still be coming. Rob Ford isn't a real flight risk, and he's only really a danger to himself since he got a driver, so I think the police and the Crown can sit back and patiently build a case against him if the evidence supports such a thing.

From what I've seen to date, I think Ford was likely involved in something shady/criminal to get the phone back. Maybe not enough for a conviction (yet), but there's pretty much enough to make me doubt his character, integrity and judgment enough to think he does not deserve to lead city council, or to serve the people of Toronto.

Does the idiocy that is Ford Nation know no bounds? He loses his phone at a party and his "driver" pays in weed to get it back. Basso calling dealers to the house on Windsor because Ford was in need of drugs. As I recall Mayor Ford made some statements about ridding the streets of crack and gangs and here he was supporting them, and then threatening them with "heat". Give it up already and back a less-shady "fiscal conservative"; this is getting stupid.

Alleged means unproven, not unprovable.

And a leader shouldn't be considered worthy of our respect just because his actions haven't resulted in a conviction yet. How low are we planning to set the bar?

As has been said today at NOW Magazine in an article, if the mayor was a 20-year-old black man, he'd be in jail already with the evidence shown thus far. When is Ford going to be arrested?
