The photos of the week: March 16-22

Posted by Derek Flack / March 22, 2013

Stars TorontoThe photos of the week collect each of the editor-selected photos of the day into one post for a contest to be decided by our readers. Sponsored by Posterjack, the photographer whose image receives the most votes will be awarded with a voucher code for a 24"x36" poster print of their work.

All the rules and fine-print can be found in the original announcement post on the blogTO Flickr page. One thing to add, however, is that the voting period ends at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, after which the winner will be contacted with the good news.

For those photographers whose images are featured below, please feel free to give us a little information about your shot — i.e. where and when it was taken — in the comments section. Who knows? Maybe your description will sway voters in your favour!

Oh man, its between 1, 3, 5, and 6 for me. Can't they all win?

Excellent selections - but no. 1 is my choice.

The piece Cachia photographed is really nice, but I liked the one before better, with all the wildlife.

The last one is phenomenal. Classic rule of thids with a fab vintage benz and the wall art is stunning! Kudos Mr. Chachia, the voting this week does not reflect the true victor here!

I like 1, but it's a shame it appears it's a composite shot and not a single photograph. Judging from the star trails it's about 30 degrees of movement, so about a 2 hour exposure on the background and much less on the foreground. I voted for 3.

I feel kinda odd commenting here, as I agree that my "Stompin" Tom" photo isn't the best one here, the "star" photo being the most interesting here, by far, which would have had my vote if I didn't have a shot here, with the graffiti shot second and the Gooderham building third. Of course, I'd promote my image, but time to give credit where credit is due!

My photo is one of those that only works if you know who Stompin' Tom was, so it relies on context and not aesthetics, but I have been frankly quite stunned at its reception on Facebook where people have been sharing it like crazy. I was asked if I photoshopped the words, as I see the stars were photoshopped on the "star" shot (the guy is at the Beaches, probably east of Balmy Beach, so he is facing SSE, but the stars show that north is at the left, so the view of the stars is facing NNE), but, no, though I suppose that wouldn't be hard to do, the street painting was as I saw it, and it remains there as of Friday, albeit faded.

Thanks to all who voted for my shot as I recognize this is a reflection of a sentimental feeling over Tom, and congrats to "stars" which woulda had my vote otherwise!
