The photos of the week: May 5 - 11

Posted by Tom Ryaboi / May 11, 2012

No LifeguardThe photos of the week collect each of the editor-selected photos of the day into one post for a contest to be decided by our readers. Sponsored by Posterjack, the photographer whose image receives the most votes will be awarded with a voucher code for a 24"x36" poster print of their work.

All the rules and fine-print can be found in the original announcement post on the blogTO Flickr page. One thing to add, however, is that the voting period ends at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, after which the winner will be contacted with the good news.

For those photographers whose images are featured below, please feel free to give us a little information about your shot — i.e. where and when it was taken — in the comments section. Who knows? Maybe your description will sway voters in your favour!

Are you including photoshops in your photo votes now? Because #3 is a shop job.

I know because the moon will never ever ever look like that through a camera without using a long lens with high magnification - which would mean that the crane could not look as it does in that photo.

The photog tried to make the picture look as it did to his eye, but cameras aren't subject to the moon illusion.

Also, he posted the photo to reddit, and admitted that it was shopped when I pointed it out there.

It's not as if the photographer is trying to hide this. Check the title of the photo. And yes, we're not averse to some Photoshop work around here.

You are a prime example of how a little knowledge can be a very bad (annoying) thing. I believe you have your photos mixed upm, http://500px.com/photo/7319231 is the photoshopped picture. The source picture for the moon above the city is from the picture posted in this article which was taken with a telephoto lens (so at least you have one thing right) and has actually very little done to it in photoshop. I'm not sure what you think a crane looks like through a telephoto lens.
