More Than a Puddle at Loblaws Parking Lot

Posted by Gary / March 29, 2009

loblaws queens quay floodIf you're heading by car to the Loblaws at Jarvis and Queens Quay today, you'd better wear your rubber boots. I just came back from there after taking this cell phone snapshot, and most areas of the parking lot are under almost a foot of water. It really puts that nautically-themed mural into perspective, doesn't it?

Goes well with the mural over the parking lot.

Did any of this make its way into the store at all, or was it contained to the parking lot?

No, Lake Loblaws gradually got more shallow as it approached the entrances.

Any idea what caused this? A burst water main? A leaky fire hydrant?

I just got back from Loblaws. It looked like the picture when I arrived, but it's mostly gone now. Maybe it was just some clogged drains or something?

I assume it's due to bad surface drainage... happens often after a heavy rainstorm.

The little waves and currents are a nice touch ;)

I wonder if this is a harbinger of things to come?

This gives me an idea.

How about instead of tearing down the Gardiner, we build Water Gardens ala University Ave?

Because if the purpose of taking down the Gardiner is to get "access to the waterfront", when the "access to the waterfront" is in reality blocked by all those Condos, we might as well bring the waterfront up.

As a plus, it can be our Rideau Canal Skateway.

Yes, I know that sounds stupid, but it's ok I'm high.

Not the first time for sure, I've seen it there like that earlier this year too.
