Toronto MenorahWhile it's only four days until Christmas, it's only a few hours until sundown and the start of the eight day festival of Hanukkah. It's not every year that Hanukkah and Christmas are celebrated together (Hanukkah can start as early as November), but it's kind of nice when they do and today I'm featuring the Hanukkah Menorah.

I don't know as much as I should about the festival, but it was interesting to read up about it this week and learn, for example, why there are nine lights on the Hanukkah menorah, not just eight. In addition, this week I heard a great NPR piece on the Major League Dreidel Tournament, read about a Matisyahu concert in Toronto and once again heard the annual playing of The Hanukkah Song . It's funnier every time. And so, to quote from Mr. Sandler himself, "Have a happy happy happy Happy Hanukkah!"

It would be nice to read up on a subject before posting "that you don't know anything or very much about it". It comes across as half assed. Thanx for paying us jews a bit of attention though. nice effort.

Hey, I like the mention! And I didn't know about the Major League Dreidel tournament (things like that tend to be under my radar), so big ups for mentioning it.

Here is a cool Hanukkah video. Enjoy and happy Hanukkah! חג חנוכה שמח!

Speaking as an atheist, I think we have the most fun at this time of year, since we have no traditions that people need to "read up on" or get right or use the correct terminology for, and so we have nothing to get huffy over (at least, not much more than the rest of the year).

Merry Christmas! Happy Kwanzaa! Happy Hanukkah! Or Chanukah! I can't be bothered to look it up!

:)

Gloria, don't you have Festivus?

(btw, I'm pretty sure Kwanzaa isn't religiously affiliated)
