And Then There was Hail

Posted by Tim / August 15, 2008

HailJust when I thought the weather in Toronto couldn't get any weirder this summer we get hail. Yep, coco-puff sized balls descended on downtown this afternoon, causing bikers and pedestrians to flee indoors for protection.

The thing is - this isn't even the first time we've had hail this month. A quick Google search revealed that parts of the GTA were swept up in part of a hail storm back on August 7th.

I moved here from Vancouver, and I would take Van's weather over this shitty weather any day(winter or summer).

I hate it when people from Toronto tell me It rains a lot in Van. well I have never seen this much rain in my life as I did this summer in Toronto. and I lived in Van for 10 years.

Munzz, we've never seen this much rain either...
last year it was dry and hot.
so while vanny is consistently rainy, you've just shown up to toronto during a freaky time.

Go back to Vancouver please. We have enough Vancouverites living here complaining about how much better things are there. I get quite sick of hearing it.

Toronto generally gets much less rain than Vancouver. We've already broken the summer rainfall record. It's an anomaly.

Thanks Satan! you might be right on that.

@Ben: I would go back to Van in a sec if I could TRUST ME!!!.

and what those Vancouverites have been telling you is very true. I guess you just haven't experienced living in Canada's paradise yet. I hope you will be lucky to do it one day.

@Munzz

At least you're not one of those annoying prairie people who keep saying "but it's a dry cold". Those people send me right round the bend. In that case, who's the one broken on the wheel of winter?

Yes, it's been an anomalous year with weather and let's hope that things will be better soon.

Please complain all you want about Toronto's weather. It sucks this year, that's a fact. I've lived in Vancouver and in Toronto but I grew up here. If your children are ugly, there's no point in lying to yourself about it.

One awfully wet summer i can deal with. this type of weather as a norm for most of the year out on the west coast... now that you can keep.

regardless, the hail was ridiculous. we'd have better get a beautiful autumn or i'm gonna need some daylight lamps in my apt.ugh.

Yeah, who'd ever expect hail and thunderstorms in the middle of summer... it's just crazy!

@guy lafleur
... ummmmm yes I have, correct me if I'm wrong but Greece is not part of Canada. We are talking about Canadian cities dude. you dont have to bring up Greece in every argument.

I had to get off the streetcar in the middle of the hail storm and bolt across the street to Shopper's Drugmart and take refuge under the overhanging roof with a dozen other people in the same situation. It was so random and sudden, I looked up on the streetcar from my ipod and realized it was pouring. Then I had a 2 minute run back to work.

I'm sorry about the weather Munzz, we'll try to fix it ok?

This site is like Python's argument sketch most of the time. I came here for an argument. No you didn't.

I'm loving Toronto's summer this year. So many great storms and lovely rain which keeps things cool.

I'm just hoping to witness a tornado but that seems unlikely despite a few funnel clouds spotted over Toronto/GTA.

@ Munzz,
I lived in Vancouver and gladly left it for Toronto. While I didn't mind the Vancouver weather, what I hated were the people convinced they lived in the best place on earth all based on scenery...Vancouver is the most unfriendly canadian city(no one smiles), it is also struggling to become a real city given it is mostly inhabited by western hicks @ heart. Yes, Vancouver is beautiful, but not for everyone, expensive, impractical, no real job opportunities unless you're highly qualified...SCENERY DOES NOT BRING FOOD ON THE TABLE.
