What's Your Story? Parrot for hire

Posted by kathleen / July 14, 2008

Parrot for hireWhat's Your Story? features the different characters that roam the streets of Toronto. Every Monday and Thursday, a new person shares their story, likes and dislikes about the city, a little secret and more.

Name: Rick

Age: 25

What neighbourhood are you from? The Annex

What do you 'do'? Film and acting.

How long have you been in Toronto? Twenty five years. All my life.

What's your story?

I'm a struggling actor surviving in the city, doing occasional labour and hard work. I love the city and animals. I've had turtles, fish, cats, everything. I'm just taking my animals out for a walk. My parrot is turning 17 years old. I'm trying to get her into the movies.

Favorite thing(s) about Toronto:

The attractions. Diversity. It's multicultural and friendly.

Least favorite thing(s) about Toronto:

Too many cars and the traffic. More people should walk.

You have 24 hours to spend with someone who's never been to Toronto before - what do you do?

I met a Japanese exchange student at the bar and I took her downtown, to Queen Street, Kensington Market and the ROM.

One thing that your friends/family don't know about you:

I like to wear wigs and mustaches to disguise myself.

I find the parrot more interesting.

Nearly fell off my bike trying to point out this fellow to my girlfriend a few weekends ago.

Excellent feature! There are so many interesting people in TO; people who you pass on the street and wonder, "what's his/her story?"

Suggestions for future features: the Bay Street Business Man with Eye Patch, the Hamster Man of College Street (where did he disappear to anyways?), and the Barefoot Urban Cowboy of Belwoods.

The parrot isn't safe without a harness. I've seen it time and again. A car backfires, something falls, parrot gone... trimmed flight feathers or not... all it takes is a gust of wind and she's gone.

I'm sure the parrot would prefer living in its native jungle habitat.

No need to worry. I'm sure he's not into out of shape pasty white girls, probably an Oriental girl despite him probably not having yellow fever.
