It's that Vine of Year

UTS Vines 2008
The University of Toronto School (UTS) has cultivated a spiffy '2008' out of the vines on its Annex facade (Bloor and Spadina).

Maybe it's vandalism; it's just the kind of benign, numerical message those cheeky UTS math geeks would come up with as a summer prank.

A couple of weeks ago the students used plastic forks and red streamers to spell out: "Fork you! That's what she said. '09" on the front lawn. Two days later I saw students cleaning it up, forks in a heap, as other students milled around with baggage next to yellow buses. Signs that school's almost out for summer (or foreva).

It takes a math geek to come up with 2008? Give us arts grads some credit...geez.

so how are all these vines on old buildings not destroying the bricks? any botanists in the house?
