Your quicker and dirtier than usual Toronto morning news roundup for Thursday June 26th, 2008:
Large vehicles like SUVs, trucks, and mini-vans aren't only facing declining sales in the wake of higher fuel costs... they're also being burned en masse!
Is Toronto headed for the toilet? Mike Harris seems to think so (and the guy is largely to blame)!

Might "Bernardo did it" be a phrase that rings true in more than one case?
A cool drink is perfect for a hot summer night. The Star has a nifty roundup of "10 drinks worth ordering in Toronto" and suggests that you not try them all in one night.
Critics are aghast over the thick ankles on the TTC's updated subway maps. OMFGJOECLARKISGONNAFREAK!

the Coles Notes of news....
I partially believe The Harrisite re: Toronto. of course he'd know, he shat on us while he was in office so he's familiar with the stink.
That change to the TTC maps -doesn't- make any sense at all, and I doubt any adequate testing was done.
I could go on a huge rant about how ignorant people are about design despite it's presence all around us, but it wouldn't solve anything. In short, people without design training or experience should not be making design decisions, whether they're a bureaucrat or a suit with a finance background.
I was admittedly VERY rushed with the Brew this morning, so if any of you regular readers want to insert your own witticisms here, please feel free :)
I just creamed my little donut
I think Jerrold just had one too many Redbulls this morning.
"Woo! Look at the sunshine. Gonna be a nice day, uh huh, ya! Woo! Hey! Let's go Running! Who wants to go??? RUN RUN RUN! Lets go, lets go, lets go! No time for morning brew!! My god, would you look at that hedge! That's amazing!!! The sunshine is amazing too!..."
You know what would be better than burning SUVs to make a point? Having the province vary its registration fee according to the curb weight of the vehicle. Honda Fit = cheap, GMC Envoy = expensive. Then you could have the city charge fees for overnight street parking permits based on vehicle length. Tiny car? Pay little. Big honkin' SUV? Pay lots.
It's not rushed, it's concise news :-)
How many people like me are wondering how these SUVs, trucks and mini-vans came to be torched now, when they aren't selling, instead of being torched months and years ago, when they were selling just fine.
The third Guns article links an article on stabbings. Unless there was a gun involved that fired knives, the post should read: Guns. Guns. Knives.
@ Johnnylee
Did you read the article? :)
"Police responded to calls about a large group of men fighting and the sound of gunshots..."
If there were gunshots, there were guns. So... Guns. Guns. Guns. :P
Well, sort of, re: Toronto going to hell.
Yeah, Harris killed this city, but Messrs. Lastman, McGuinty and Miller have done NOTHING to help it. There are some of us who would argue that the latter three have basically dug a bigger grave.
