vidTO - Why Vote?

Posted by Zach / November 8, 2006

The people at Who Runs This Town have created a video advertisement that aims to get more people out to vote on November 13th. Dave Meslin of WRTT writes:

We've just posted a 60-second video about the Toronto election on our website. The City hasn't done any television ads promoting the election, so we thought we'd do it ourselves!

If there was any doubt of whether to vote, this should clear it up. WWRT is probably the best resource we have for all things related to the upcoming election.

I think it's one of those dystopian views of what Dundas Square could become if we let developers run our public spaces. Or something like that.

It's already happening. The artist rendering in the video is being built. It's the monstrosity that's being erected at the NE corner of Yonge/Dundas. Plenty of neon glow in the near future.

David Miller or Megacity Toronto and it's future? Do you really want to re-elect him as Mayor of Toronto? by GO TO
<a href="http://megacitytoronto.blogspot.com";>http://megacitytoronto.blogspot.com<;/a>
<br><br>
It seems to me there is something going on in the house when people vote for someone who for one thing was never born in the house in the first place. Like don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong I suppose that David Miller is an American first and foremost having been born in San Francisco, California. But how can he feel the heart beat of this city if his first
breath was never taken here? Not even in Canada you say!
<br><br>
I suppose one could say that this doesn't really matter. But it sure seems that since electing this American as the Mayor of Toronto in the first place the gun crime rate has shot up just like it is in the United States.
<br><br>
Is it just coincidence? Might be might not, but you have your own mind don't you? I guess the new rash of drive-by shootings has me wondering. Considering this kind of crime was virtually unheard of in Toronto before he was elected.
<br><br>
So let us look at David Miller and his political losses shall we? And then we will highlight and open your eyes some more!
<br><br>
He first campaigned for Toronto city council in 1991 and lost to incumbent councillor Derwyn Shea
<br><br>
He than ran for Parkdale High Park in the 1993 federal election under the NDP and lost again to Liberal incumbent Jesse Flis.
<br><br>
Again he campaigned for the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1996 for the NDP and lost to Liberal Party candidate Gerard Kennedy
<br><br>
He sought in 2000 the election for chair of the TTC and lost to Brian Ashton.
<br><br>
With a track record like this one I wonder how he ever got elected as Mayor of Toronto in the first place. Oh we know that in 2003 he continually used his opposition for a bridge to the Island Airport in order to gain media attention and subsequently be voted in. As he had a vendetta against the former Mayor Mel Lastman who wanted to see it built!
<br><br>
David Miller opposed the amalgamation to Megacity Toronto by Mike Harris.
<br><br>
But we have it don't we!
<br><br>
David Miller opposed the plan to ship Toronto's garbage to the Adams Mine.
<br><br>
But he sure is willing to ship it to London, Ontario.
<br><br>
David Miller opposed the building of a bridge to the Toronto Island Airport because of his plan to revitalize the waterfront.
<br><br>
But he sure failed the bid as he did not make the deadline of November 3rd for the World Expo 2015 that would of allowed for the revitalization of this waterfront.
<br><br>
As Mel Lastman put it back when "You will never be mayor of this city because you say stupid and dumb things!" in regards to David Miller
<br><br>
But for the most part the people did not listen in 2003 to what Megacity Mel was saying. He was just trying to warn you of a future with David Miller at the helm.
<br><br>
What does it take for us to realize that Mel Lastman was right? Do we need to see more of our citizens dead on the streets because of the continued increase in gun violence. Because David Miller did not initially increase the police presence in time. Looking at only his bottom line. Only hiring more officers as the death toll got out of hand. Now the death toll continues!
<br><br>
How many more opportunities will the city of Toronto lose and how many more can we afford. How many more lies!
<br><br>
"I will be a tireless promoter of Toronto's bid for Expo 2015.
<br><br>
I want Toronto to experience this. So, to further strengthen the waterfront, and the economy I want Toronto to host Expo 2015. This will generate $ 8.1 billion in economic impact, create 143,000 jobs in Toronto, and attract nearly 40 million visitors." David Miller Election speech September 29, 2006
<br><br>
When you vote November 13th. Vote for none of what is above. Vote for someone who will bring Megacity Toronto into the future. For someone who wants Megacity Toronto. And not the "amalgamated Toronto" term that David
Miller so uses.
<br><br>
Let's really take out the trash and recycle!
<br><br>
Vote for Megacity Toronto!

Yep. Sorry dudes. It's the real thing. Do a Google image search for "Dundas Square" and you'll find a few depictions of the "Metropolis" building being built. Now if all those screens were showing videos made by the students at Ryerson, next door, that would be a good use of public space.

Dave Meslin says his sites <a href="http://www.tpsc.ca";>http://www.tpsc.ca<;/a> <a href="http://www.whorunsthistown.ca";>http://www.whorunsthistown.ca<;/a> and <a href="http://www.cityidol.to";>http://www.cityidol.to<;/a> are going make him a kingmaker in local politics.

If anything Dave who used to work in NDP MPP Marilyn Churley's constituency office has only managed to help fringe candidates undermine the chances of well known and well respected NDP candidates like Alejandra Bravo, Paul Ferreira and Greg Hamara from having any chance to unseat incumbent city councillors.

Way to go Dave!
