Panda Sighting on King West
It's not every Saturday I head out for my lunch break and end up getting super-fuzzy hugs from a giant panda bear.
April Fool's joke? No, just WWF Canada spreading the love and raising awareness (and funds) on King West in front of the MEC store.
Coming up on April 27th & 29th, the WWF is teaming up with Canada Life to raise funds to assist the battle against global warming with a CN Tower climb. The 27th is "team challenge" day and the 29th is the public climb.

If you're thinking about doing the climb, then I suggest you do it in the fall, so you can jog or cycle in the summer and finish the climb with a better time than now, so soon after winter, which for many of us, has been a non-cardio intensive season.

If you're planning for a final sprint. Then it may be useful to know that the section climbed is 142 stories.

I did the climb for the WWF in Spring 2003 (20:37) then was told how the WWF harms Canada internationally with their anti-sealing campaigns.

Since then I've only done the climbs for the United Way in fall 2003 (15:39) and fall 2004 (14:42).

It's a blast each time. I recommend donating enough to get the T-shirt with your time written on the back. They make interesting ice breakers. I've even been stopped twice by tourists who were curious. Unfortunately it isn't done often enough to fit their schedules. If it were done on say a monthly basis, or daily like the Sydney bridge climb, then it may draw a few more thrill seeking tourists.
