Capture the Hog: Last Streetcar Down

Posted by Tanja / April 10, 2006

april1006_CTHstreetcar.jpgNot even stopping for the loudmouth punks running to hail it from the Reverb, a late night streetcar shoots through Queen & Bathurst.

Update - news today that the TTC is having problems finding new streetcars due to the size and shape of our streets. Excuse to get rid of them? Moscoe is sounding very pro-streetcar, which is good, but you've got to wonder.

If we had more Streetcar ROWs, we wouldn't have nearly as much problems with size.

It's not the ROW, it's the existing turns, and the geography. An off the shelf streetcar might have trouble on the Union station loop, even though there's 2km of private track running south. Build up a wall around the tracks, like on Spadina, and it may be that we could run physically longer trains, without worrying that the back half would be caught in an intersection, but you might still have a problem when those cars have to turn the corner and go home for the night. I'd say that's a pretty big problem. St. Clair used to have a ROW, but it was designed to old specifications.
