Liberal/Conservative - Born, not made?

Just read this article from last Sunday's Star. It confirms one of those "I'd always thought so, but had no proof" theories that I've had ever since I was old enough to vote.

The article reveals details of a study by UC Berkley social scientist Jack Block in which he "reasons that insecure kids look for the reassurance provided by tradition and authority, and find it in conservative politics. The more confident kids are eager to explore alternatives to the way things are, and find liberal politics more congenial."

Wish this telling info had been released prior to the last election.

In Canada, are the Liberals the conservatives now? Theirs is the traditional "Canadian" agenda against which all other proposals are judged. Theirs is the party of authority (gun registry, state-run day care, meddling in provincial-domain matters, expanding civil service to better regulate our lives). Its other parties that suggest "alternatives to the way things are". The insecure must be Liberals in Canada - its all topsy turvy here.
