Inventively Inane Advertisements

Posted by Tanja / March 13, 2006

march1306_adpost.jpgCame across this image today through Boing Boing.com.

The stripclub behind the campaign has been lacing the streets of Paris with the posters.

Lampposts being city property, would this kind of thing be allowed in T.O.? Council is building up a decent reputation at selling out various public areas, but then again, the Toronto Public Space Committee is watching pretty closely to keep the rest of us informed of the city plans that try to slip by under the public radar.

I actually kinda like this. But mostly in it's context in Paris. Arty banners of girls in lingerie make sense for sexy, sexy Paris.
Toronto's just a little too square for that kinda thing (even if our strip clubs are pretty legendary).
Also: lampost banners and posters are traditional advertising mediums that work well and do not infringe much on public space meant for pedestrians.
I'd be pretty ok with it if city council considered new and inovative ways of using these spaces and mediums.
It's when they flat out break zoning regulations that it's not so cool.
