Bye-Bye Yellow
Didn't want to let this landmark occasion pass without acknowledging the overhaul and redesign of Eye Weekly. While I like the new look - and spiffy new web site - I'm sad to see the iconic yellow rectangle go. The grey is nice. But it's no yellow rectangle.
I'm still making my way through all the pictures, but one of these streetcar rides I'm bound to get to an article or two. Glad to see Spacing's Dale Duncan now one of the six full time staffers.
And have you noticed how Torstar (owner of Eye, Toronto.com, Harlequin romance novels and a bunch of other academic, high-brow must-reads) is on a bit of a kick to reinvent its properties? Can't blame 'em when you see the sagging performance of its core holding, the Toronto Star.

I like the new look. Eye is such a better weekly than our other option known as NOW. The latter used to be such a great rag and a true left-wing publication. These days they seem to be reviewing restaurants that one would expect to find reviewed in Toronto Life.
Moreover, their 'best of T.O.' has become a joke. The perennial opinion that Mr. Greek has the best greek food in the city and that Birks is the best place to buy a watch proves that the new breed of NOW readers have limited depth.
Finally, the fact that the current issue lists Torontoist as the best blog over BlogTo is further proof of the fact that NOW just plain sucks.
C'mon ... Torontoist? Gimme a break.
