The Downtown De-Fence Project

ddp.jpg The Downtown De-Fence Project is a non-profit service that offers free fence removal to any willing home owner.

DDP works to remove fences from Toronto properties because:
* fenced properties look more like    jailyards than homes
* fences are a self-imposed rusty    barrier between neighbours
* fences create feelings of isolation    and detachment

The whole idea is to encourage community building and I think that's a great idea.

Visit The Downtown De-Fence Project online for before/after shots of work they've done lately or for info on how you can volunteer - next day of de-fencing is August 6th.

I always find it so interesting to hear about the unique things that people are involved with. This is a neat project. I never thought about fences in that way before, but when I saw the before and after pictures, I couldn't believe how much better these homes looked once the fences were removed.
