City
Dose Debuts

Couldn't let the day pass without extending a big "welcome to the oversaturated TO media scene" to CanWest pub Dose. You've got me why they decided to launch yet another free daily in the city. Must be their idea of compensating for the fact readership in their sister pub, the National Post, dropped 12% last year.
Haven't all these new publishers heard of something called the Internet? It spares trees. Plus, it's where the readership is at. Perhaps it's a case of having too much money they don't know what to do with? But wait, they have a web site. And get this, they offer free blog space. No one does that, right? (Apologies to Blogger, MSN spaces, Xanga et al)

it's definitely better than the other free dailies. and i'll give them credit for having a better web site than any of the other print pubs.
but remember - they've spent millions of dollars on this...so it should be good.
the question i was really asking is what's up with this print-centric view of the world from TO publishers? ok, free dailies are doing ok - albeit in a crowded market but there is no denying that newspaper readership is declining.
so why spend millions launching something paper based when eyeballs - especially the younger demographic they're targeting - are moving online?
