Anti-War demo rocks Nathan Phillips Sq

Saturday afternoon in the city. The sun is shining and thousands of hogtowners are not out window shopping, no no, they are gathered at NPS for a much anticipated Anti-War Demo.

The rally went down at 1pm, with a number of speakers taking the stage to express their views on war, peace and all the people caught in between. Local politicians like Marilyn Churley were kind enough to leave the rest of their agenda at home and speakers like Darrell Anderson and Afnan Al-Hahimi were given time to speak their mind.

Darrel is a soldier who refused to kill innocent civilians in Afghanistan and who is now seeking refuge in Canada. He told the crowd about his first-hand experiences with a corrupt war and imaginary search for weapons of mass destruction.

Afnan Al-Hashiini is a 14-year-old Muslim girl who, though certainly speaking from a well-written speech prepared for her, had a long of powerful points to make and spoke incredibly for someone her age.

After all was said and done the demonstrators took to the street, marching west on Queen and then filling up University Ave as they made their way past the US embassy, in particular, on their way around the downtown core.
