Origo Books TorontoOrigo Books is an independent boutique bookshop specialized in the alternative and metaphysical, recently open in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood. Their manifest purpose is to provide a unique place for nurturing the Mind and Soul while promoting an inclusive, non biased approach to Knowledge and our collective consciousness. They also operate a small art gallery in its mezzanine to showcase visual artists from the community and abroad.

Google Map is wrong. ORIGO BOOKS is half-a-block south of what is shown —between The Esplanade and the Go tracks / Lake Shore Blvd.— on the same East sidewalk.

Found Origo while strolling downtown Toronto and I'm leaving with mixed opinions. I expected the usual bookstore, with an inexpressive clerk behind the counter and crammed with books like a library. Instead, I found a charming, soothing place half-way between a bookstore, a gift shop and a new age store. As a bookstore, the selection is rather short but solid --to my surprise I found books on Tesla and fringe science. As a spiritual or metaphysical store, well, it's fair to say it covers more than the basics. Then, there is an art gallery (no workshop today) and the store is very art-oriented overall. I had a long and interesting talk with the owners and am truly amazed by the way they handle such operation just by themselves. They even provide free wireless! I couldn't find any other place like this in downtown Toronto and gladly recommend it. One advice though: shed all preconceptions before, Origo is a place of wonders.
