Founded in 1988, Mabel's Fables is a cheerful and brightly-lit two-level store packed with books and toys for children.

The store hosts many events including book parties, signings, toddler storytimes, parenting courses, baby classes, and writing courses. You can even arrange school class visits! Here's the reading room on the second floor:

I've been in Mabel's Fables several times, and each time the staff were cheerful and immensely helpful.

And yes, there is actually a Mabel. The store cat was pretty sleepy when I visited last time:

seriously...do you have any idea what a small book store like this makes??? pretty much nothing. enough to stay alive barely. I know a friend of mine had a book store and went under because of the big chains. Small book stores have a limit of at least 700.00 to order anything new. how the hell can a small book store survive on this? They can't! my friend went 80,000.00 in debt after 2yrs trying to stay alive. AND YOU ARE ASKING FOR A FREE BOOK??? shame on u
