Toronto's Literary Events: June 10-16, 2008

BookIn this week's roundup of Toronto's literary events: Canadian sonnets, more Luminato, poetry in the park, and Book Expo Canada.

Tuesday, June 10

Straight from Norway, acclaimed cartoonist JASON will be at The Central in Toronto to launch his new work Pocket Full of Rain. JASON's work can be currently seen in the New York Times Magazine, and will be interviewed on his process and inspirations by The Beguiling's Peter Birkemoe.

Wednesday, June 11

Sonnets didn't die away with William Shakespeare. Jailbreaks assembles 99 sonnets by Canadians in a tome edited by Zachariah Wells. The Toronto launch for Jailbreaks takes place at IV Lounge, 326 Dundas Street West on Wednesday at 8pm, and will feature readings by Colin Carberry, Evie Christie, Pino Coluccio and Stuart Ross.

Thursday, June 12

Pistol Press launches their inaugural issue of Pistol! at the Freedom Clothing Collective, 939 Bloor Street West. The evening will feature readings by Gil Filar, Elyse Friedman, Catherine Kidd, Hillary Rexe, as well as music by Luke Correia-Damude.

Friday, June 13

David Whitton and Rebecca Rosenblum will read from their fiction and and answer questions at TPL's Northern District branch on Friday at 12:30pm as part of Luminato's Festival of the Short Story.
 

Saturday, June 14

There's a ton going on at Book Expo Canada at the Metro Convention Centre, from readings, signings, and workshops. The Expo kicks off on Friday, but goes on throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday as well.

Sunday, June 15

Take advantage of the (hopefully) great weather on Sunday and enjoy some Poetry in the Park. Local poet Sheila Hyland reads from her recent work at Colborne Lodge at 2pm.

Monday, June 16

Lee Child, author of the twelve popular Jack Reacher thriller novels, will sign copies of his new novel at First Canadian Place at 12:30pm on Monday.
