As Kari mentioned in the latest Bookmark This!, the city's getting geared up for the July 21st release of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and the upcoming festivities aren't just for kids.

The Flying Dragon Bookshop (1721 Bayview Ave., ph: 416-481-7721) is hosting a "graduation from Hogwarts" party on Friday, July 20th at 10 pm and will be donating 15% of the cover cost of the newest Harry Potter book to Frontier College, a non-profit Canada wide organisation that supports literacy for all ages.

Harry Potter and the Casa Loma Party (July 20, 6pm-12:30 am) celebrates the release of the final book, for fans aged 14 and over. $82 entry fee includes a formal dinner, live music (5th Projekt), dance, other activities. Participants are encouraged to dress up in costume.

Grown-up Harry Potter fans might want to check out Prophecy 2007: From Hero To Legend (August 2-5). The focus of the conference is academic, but the event will also feature musical entertainment from The Remus Lupins, Draco and the Malfoys, Harry and the Potters, and The Whomping Willows.

Do you know of other upcoming Harry Potter events in the city? Please do post them below.

Highly recommend the Flying Dragon party. They're excellent.

I am in the midst of a full-on flying panic about this book. :)

Why a panic, Matt?

The Casa Loma party is definitely an event no Harry Potter fan will want to miss!

If I go to the Casa Loma party, will I be able to get a copy of the book at midnight?  Because as much as I love partying with legal-aged Cho Changs, I still want to be the first of my friends to finish reading the book.  Yeah, I'm petty like that.

If no access to the book, then I'm sticking to lining up in front of Chapters...

Chapters and Indigo are supplying the books for the Casa Loma party. Once midnight hits, we will get those books to the party as soon as possible. So if you order the book through the party website along with admission, you should get a copy just after midnight (prices are on the website). Also, we will have around 150 guests, and not all of them have ordered books, so you don't have to worry about a gigantic line.

Check the website if you have any other questions.
