Shane Koyczan vs. the World! The slam champ faces off against five Toronto poets in a different kind of poetry slam event: winner takes home half the night's door cover. Hosted by Dave "BigDeal" Silverberg.

Wednesday, July 11th:

Toronto Women's Bookstore presents Connecting Communities: Desh & Diaspora an exciting and thought-provoking evening of readings , performance and discussion exploring issues of South-Asianness. Featuring Teenah Edan, Nila Gupta, Sabrina Jalees, Ferdos Nahar and Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha and hosted by Anjula Gogia.

Politically inspired writer Scott Gardiner participates as part of Random House's Author Reading Series.

I.V. Lounge Reading Series continues with fiction by Margaret Macpherson and poetry by Mira McEwan and Chris Michalski.

Saturday, July 14th:

The Writers' Trust of Canada's Writers' Workshop Program presents a workshop on "How to BE an Author (Publishing Contract Not Included)". Author, freelance journalist, teacher and abstract photographer Matt Beam tells his story, shares his knowledge and questions your assumptions about the writing life.

Sunday, July 15th:

HAUNTED FISHTANK: Poetry, spoken word, live music, performance art and comedy. Bands welcome for acoustic/low electric sets (no drum kits, but bongos/congas, etc. welcome).

Monday, July 16th:

The Writers' Trust of Canada's Writers' Workshop Program presents another workshop, the "The First Novelists' Workshop," an informative and instructive session that will explore the great literary unknown attached to the sale, publication and promotion of your first novel or short-story collection, with critically acclaimed author and book reviewer Gale Zoë Garnett.
