vidTO: Zoinks! Music and Books

Posted by Jerrold Litwinenko / January 9, 2007

[ - a mini-tour and customer testimonials for Zoinks! - runs 3mins - ]

We like small business in Toronto, we like having many options, and we love books and music. That's why we have no problem posting reader submissions that are commercials for independent operations in Toronto.

Zoinks! Music and Books at Bloor and Dovercourt invites you to check out their shop and browse their selection.

Feel free to let us know what you think of the shop.

If Zoinks were in The Annex or Queen W, it would only be slightly better than average.

But due to it's location, a neighbourhood that SORELY needs this kind of store, it's a godsend!

God, I'm so glad they are still open. I use to goto the old location then noticed that it was gone one day.

I live in the area and while it's no BMV, it's still pretty good.

I am SO visiting Zoinks next week when I come up there. One more reason Canada (TO) is cooler than the US, you don't bow to the Barnes and Noble/Borders/Wal-Mart God and still have small businesses. Looks like a cool place.

Just was in there yesterday, they were playing a great instrumental cd, i asked who it was and it was John Parish's "How Animals Move" and it's still there for $8.95, i would have bought it but got a book instead. There is a diverse curated selection of books and music in an intimate space, friendly staff. Zoinks is a much needed place and only a stone's throw away from Dufferin Grove Park.

It's a lovely store, and I can't think of any Annex bookstore I like more.

Oh, sorry, 'Seekers' is great if you're looking for books about Martians or macrame.

Anyway, comparisons are beside the point. Zoinks is a tiny perfect bookstore, with a selection that is discriminating but eclectic. Those who share the literary and musical tastes of the selectors will appreciate not having to sort through dusty piles of dross.

A nice little second-hand spot, even if the pricing strikes me as a bit weird sometimes (some things way cheaper than I'd expect, and some more expensive - but I guess it balances out). There's obviously been some care put in to selecting material, especially their sizeable fiction collection.

Between Zoinks, Balfour (ah, Balfour) and The Monkey's Paw, mid-west-siders are set up nicely. Who needs to go east of Bathurst anymore? ;)
