Sweet Escape PatisserieThe Sweet Escape Patisserie is in the old Cafe Crepe location in the Distillery District. But while crepes may no longer be on the menu, there's still plenty of sweet stuff here including cakes, cupcakes and shortbread. It's all made fresh on the premises.

The above description of The Sweet Escape does not do it justice. it not only features some of the best pastries in the city but it has a wonderful selection of sandwiches on home made bread (try the pear and brie on walnut bread). Also during the warmer months it has some of the most decadent and creative ice cream to be found anywhere.

I have to say that the Pear and Brie on Walnut Bread is the best sandwich I've had in all of Toronto. I love Chef Michelle's Mollasses cookies, they're sweet and chewy just like my grandmother's were. Also, you should not leave without trying at least one Macaroon, with their wonderful texture and taste they are a rare find in town. I can't ever leave without a big box of treats.

I recently made a trip to the Distillery District for the first time, and stumbled across this little bakery in the back of the building. I was immediately drawn to the chocolate cookie in the display window, and to be honest it looked a little on the crunchy stale side. TO MY SURPRISE however, the cookie, was Moist, chocolatey, and delicious. One of the best chocolate cookies I have ever had actually...
The woman working there was in the middle of cutting a big sheet of caramels, and I decided to buy a package. ALSO AMAZING.
Definitely reccommend this little gem of a place.
