Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar: A Test in Salt

His name may be all over anything organic and local, but you wouldn't be able tell from the seasonal menu that he slips you his principles through his namesake restaurant - the Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar. You'll find half of the kitchen staff in the back curing, smoking and preserving carefully picked ingredients while the chef's bar out front puts on the show. Definitely the best seats in the house, at the bar you can watch the small plates come together and query them about everything you see. It can be overwhelming, but ordering a couple dishes at a time will make it a great experience.

NASR Foods Inc.

Plenty of shops dotting the Toronto landscape are at the ready with rotating spits and deep fryers to shave off meat for shawarmas or crisp up falafel balls. As an easy and tasty introduction to Middle Eastern food, it is no wonder that these outlets are spread about the city. But with no downtown neighbourhood to call their own, venturing out to Scarborough is the only way to get the full spectrum of Middle Eastern delights.

With a focus on Middle Eastern groceries, NASR Foods is an ethnic food mecca. Small selections of South Asian, European and North American items are scattered throughout the store and beautiful exotic produce fill the aisles. I'll often find myself spending a lot of time in the store discovering new foods and interesting products that have me coming back for more.

Familiarity may strike you when approaching Yu Shan Dumpling Cuisine. It could be the signage that vaguely resembles a small Northern Chinese chain known for their dumplings or perhaps you've seen the lengthy windows and flanking patio on television before. This location was actually the unlucky recipient of a Restaurant Makeover and as any faithful viewer can expect, the previous restauranteurs moved out and Yu Shan moved in.

The rich, spicy and refreshing flavours of pho make it the gateway dish for Vietnamese cuisine, but don't let it stop there. Many of the Vietnamese restaurants scattered throughout the city focus on the well-loved broth but few dare to venture beyond the typical like Pho Phuong.
