Dylan StreetDylan Hayward, 25 years old. Leslieville.

There was a time when studying art in University was seen as a ridiculous pursuit. It's somehow become the status quo of my generation; film majors, dance majors, music majors lining the halls of our top institutions.

There won't be much work for these people once they're finished studying. New media outlets are hacking away at the earnings potential of artists all the time. Are these schools giving a generation of Canadians false hope about making a living in the arts?

Canadian filmmaking is in trouble. Well, fine, it's always been in trouble, but government censorship like Bill C-10 and the rising cost of production has put the industry on life support. Winston Hacking is a local filmmaker who realizes the only way to save Canadian movies is to make the public care about them, one screening at time.

Alison Kobayashi Diner

Alison S. M. Kobayashi, 24 years old. Bloor and Lansdowne.

It's incredible what you can find at the back of a thrift store in Mississauga. A beaten up Dan Brown novel...a set of glow in the dark forks...'Men in Black' on VHS...or an old answering machine tape. Alison Kobayashi found an answering machine tape that had belonged to a man named 'Dan Carter'...it changed her life forever.
