A snapshot of Nuit Blanche

I didn't attack Nuit Blanche with a battle plan. I had too much gear from the C.N. Tower shoot, lingered too long on the U. of T. campus and took in a fraction of what I thought was possible in 12 hours.
Anyone out on the streets last night can tell you it was a zoo of pedestrians, cars, chartered buses and cyclists. Galleries and bars were beyond capacity, the crowds were 20 people deep and line-ups around the block. Needless to say, it simplified what to see.

talk20 first edition

Over 100 people packed the Drake Hotel Underground Thursday night for talk20 Toronto's first "multidisciplinary buffet meets Lollapalooza" event. Usually I'm leery of talk events held in basements, but Team Macho and Michael Cook (Vanishing Point), were on the roster so I couldn't resist.

Car Free Day & How to Host a Parking Meter Party

Leave the car in the driveway today and come down to Dundas Square for the Sierra Club of Canada's Car Free party in the heart of our city's concrete jungle.
Between 10am and 2pm, Yonge St. from Dundas to Shuter will be a pedestrian zone, where you can learn about car heaven, have your fortune read and fix your bike while sipping fair trade coffee.
For those of you who want to feel more revolutionary in the effort to help people with their addiction to cars, I suggest hosting a parking meter party during the official World Carfree Day on Saturday afternoon or the ride with Critical Mass next Friday night .

son/lumiere 2 at the Gladstone Hotel

Last night was the second experimental sound and light experience of son/lumiere in the Gladstone Hotel's Ballroom. It started at 8:30pm sharp and before the first band, Epigram had finished their set the place was at capacity.
The music was more eclectic than the last event, opening with new comers to the experimental music scene Epigram, whose sound is in the vein of Explosions in the Sky and filled the Ballroom with a wall of instrumental post-rock that held the crowd spell bound.

Shannon Gerard at The Toronto Zine Library
Today I made a long overdue first visit to the Toronto Zine Library (TZL), to hear
Shannon Gerard talk about her practice of making art books, self publishing and her recent series of multiples Boobs and Dinks: Early Detection Kits.
Shannon has been making print-based book art and multiples since the late 90's exploring "loss, faith, fear and other melancholy things." And her work is a stunning collection of hand crafted objects of art created to inspire dialogue and a relationship with the people who read them.
